I contacted a H-T user regarding a set of GSR front discs and these are the pictures he sent. The first two are drivers side, second two are passenger side. I am considering buying the calipers, rotors, brakelines and pads. I plan to swap them onto my eg hatch.

He says they have 66k miles on them and they are off a 1995 GSR. Basically, I'm having a few doubts about buying used brakes, but thats why I'm posting. If they look legit it might save me some money..

Let me know if you think the brakes look correct, if you think they're in good shape, and any opinions on buying used. I haven't researched the cost of new brakes yet, but I would imagine that the calipers could be expensive....

Those are definitely 10.3" front brakes.

Whether they came from a GSR specifically or not is kind of irrelevent, since all non-Type-R G3 Integra brakes are the same . . .

 

Do I need anything else to make these brakes work correctly on a 1992 Cx hatch that I'm forgetting?

 

You need the entire knuckles, actually.

If you are coming from 9.5" brakes, then you need the entire upright suspension piece that spans from the upper control arm to the lower control arm. That is the "knuckle." The hub and brakes are mounted on it. The axle goes into it from behind.

 

sorry for being a bit off topic. i never got what a knuckle was.

is the knuckle the entire front thing? the long arm, rotors, calipers, bearing thing, wtc.. all of it. is that considered a knuckle? thanks

how much do front g3 integra knuckles cost anyways? i was searching and seems like to convert to rear disc, the rear are abour $250.

 

Part #'s 2 & 3 are the front knuckles from a 92 CX. That should clear up what the knuckle is.

$75 for the knuckle and complete brakes?? That seems realllly low. And I didn't see anything about 'Teg brakes on hmotorsonline.com

 

integra brakes are the same as ex civic brakes just to let you know.

same size rotor but the caliper is different, it's a tad smaller.

For $75, you get a bunch of parts from a junkyard car. The knuckles and calipers are most important pieces.

You're going to want to replace the rotors and pads though. Remember, they're from a junk car that has been sitting around for who knows how long . . . and who knows what condition they'll be in.

And if you mess up a ball joint when you swap the knuckles, you'll have to replace those too.

If you're coming from 9.5" brakes, you'll want to upgrade the master cylinder as well - you'll have to buy that separately.

So don't expect to have completely new, upgraded brakes for a mere $75.

 

I dont know if I would repalce the pads and rotors, however I did upgrade brake booster and master cylinder but left the junkyard rotors and pads... after about 50 miles or so I used a can of brake clean on entire set up and never touched them again. seemed to work fine for me however I have only done it on three cars.

 

I read somewhere on H-T that eg Si or Ex knuckles work as well... can anyone verify this?

If you can find a setup that came off of a car with ABS you will be set.

 

im jus wondering, why would anyone use a si or ex knuckle if the calipers on those are not as big as integras. form what i just read above, bigger calipers would be able to stop better because they hold a bigger brake pad. correct me if im wrong, cus im kind of lost, lol.

i think i read somewehre that the integra arms are a little longer or something, does that affect installation? thank you!

 

^because the ex/si knuckle is the same size as the integra ones - meaning the integra/prelude/nsx/accord caliper brackets can bolt onto it; they cannot bolt onto "dx" knuckles.

Of course larger calipers will stop a car better. Oh, and like Ive said at least three dozens times, civic abs calipers are the SAME SIZE as integra calipers.

they do take different pads, any more then that i do not know.


jimmy- who is racing in a spec class, and people have been DQ'd befor for having integra front calipers.

 

yes, but the piston size is identical - and thats all that matters anyway. The calipers and brackets of the ex, si, integra are all the same otherwise (unless someone looks at the piston, itself, you cant tell theyre integras)
