Default Boost/MPG Tranny

Ok guys, I've come to the conclusion that everyone is just used to being arround 4kRPM at 80 MPH on the freeway and such. I'm wondering, how much performance would we lose if we bolted up an accord tranny for the taller gearing to our h22s? I understand that the close ratio's keep us in our powerband longer but also, is it that large of a sacrifice say if your running boost? If you have an efficient setup and you hit peak boost at 3.4-4k RPM then these long geared tranny's might just help no? I think this might get me flamed but it's worth a shot.

shorter gears are better than longer gears, n/a or boost, go in the FI forum and theyll tell u the same, well the mods will at least

you'll kill the acceleration

guys with accords love h23 trannies, the f22 tranny is good for economy thats it

if this is a real concern for you, i have no idea why you have a turbo kit

yes it is a sacrifice, all those folks in the drag and FI forum, with tons of HP turning 11 and even 10 second timeslips, arent using LS trannies on GSR motors...

It depends, if you have the power to pull the gear, a longer gear doesn't seem so bad. I run a S trans in my car, (well i did when it ran) at considerable boot (above 1bar) it was definatly beneficial in a "street" sense, in that the tire would of blown away with a H23 trans in the car. However in a "track" situation regardless of power, u want a shorter gear, only problem there is you gotta have a fast hand, since you'll be shifting every second..... this is where aftermarket final drives come in.....

alright guys.... the last post helped the most (not bashing anyones opinions!), he said in a "street" sense. This car is mostly a daily driver that I'm looking forward to making more enjoyable to drive, especially in a straight line with punk rice boys all over anoka these days. I am not running slicks on my way to work in the morning. But I don't want to shred my tires to pieces every time I go from 1st > 2nd. The tranny on the h22 is a lot more fun than my old accord tranny I agree... but I also got 31 mpg in my accord and the torque numbers are very close. Maybe I didn't know what I wanted when I bought this car.... sorry to bug you guys, I thought this was a great idea for FI setups. Use those tall gears so you stay on boost without spinning like mad. This is in consideration to running high amounts of boost while keeping it as a daily driver. Kind of like a strip/highway hybrid machine? I'll shutup now.....
