Default car problems: 92 dx

alright let me start off with a little background info. this car has been a dream to own and drive. it has never had anything mayjor go wrong with it. besides needing new breaks and tires and oil and maintenence like that, the engine has never had anything wrong with it. once my muffler fell off but thats besides the point. but just now i left my friends house noticed my car acting weird. i started up and noticed it was more quite then it usually is. i can normally hear the muffler, but i couldnt this time. so i took off and the car almost stalled.

it seems to be really 'lagging', it doesnt have the pickup it usually has and it seems to take an hour to get out of first gear. and if i go threw the whole gear it gets alot more higher pitched then usual at the top of the gear. also at a red light the car seems its chugging, trying to stay on. anothing thing is when i would floor it at like 30 mph in 3rd gear there was absolutely NO pickup and the car would seem to just shake, and not go any faster. usually in third it a little bit of a notice.

i pulled over and checked the exhaust and it seems to be 'sputtering' out exhaust. not really a constant stream of exhaust but little spirts ever now and then . it seems like the brakes are stuck engaged but i dont think so because when i just put the clutch in and rev it, it seems a little lagged here to, not as bad but still alittle.

thats all i can think of that i noticed ATM. its a 92 sedan, dx with a stock D15 in it. has almost 170,000 miles on it, and this didnt happen until i left my friends house. was fine on the way over there. also i dont have a tach cause it got stolen so i cant check the RPMS. any advice?

EDIT: on the way to work the car took like 10 seconds to start... thats 10 seconds of cranking to finally start up. leaving work it started up fine (i worked for about 4 hours). also i noticed if i turn the wheel all the way to the right of left it started to chug again. which is kind of weird to me. but hopefully tommarow i will get it looked at.

EDIT 2: i put in a new fuel filter today and also put in injector cleaner. seems to still be doing it. at first it wasnt as bad but now its pretty much the same thing happening. im going to take it to a local shop tommarow to get it looked at.

Check timing and invest in some new ignition components, spark plugs, wires, dist. cap and rotor, maybe even got a new fuel filter. Good luck.

ya its boggy as ****. seems to be going no where... when im in first and just moving i gotta give it 2-3 times the normal amount of gas to start going. and there is fumes just a lot less, but when it 'spits' out exhause its like twice the norm.

and its a MT.

yeah it does sound like it could be the distributor.

those are a wear and tear item that often goes overlooked.
cuz the wear and tear takes alot longer than other things.

but yeah, get a new cap/rotor, see if it helps, they're cheap.

or get a used dizzy off someone on honda-tech..
also cheap.

check all your wires, and CHECK YOUR GROUNDS(those can cause the wierdest problems if not secure).

Get in the zone, Autozone? do they have those in TX? if not any DIY car parts store should carry them as normal stock, good luck!
