Are OEM HID's really worth the money?
Well, I am stuck... Is it really worth the $1200 +/- for the OEM HIDs? Or should I just get an aftermarket HID kit like Philips? I would like to get the most out of it.. Will I notice that much of a difference? I am sick of the Hyperwhite bulbs I have now.
You do not think they are worth it? Am I really going to notice that much of a difference b/w a 6000k Philips kit and OEM?
Phillips are good for the money and there have been a couple of groups buys for them on honda-tech...just look for some deals and get your friends in on a group buy...

I just purchased a used set of HIDs from a crashed Acura TL. I only paid $350. They were not a direct fit but I used a little of epoxy to hold the bulbs in and tapped the positive and negative wires into the headlight harness and WHAT A DIFFERENCE! Its pretty much a simple installation if you have some mechanical skill. It is a night and day difference. The road is illuminated 100 times better. I was planning on purchasing a $1200 set or an aftermarket set like Phillips but I prefer using an OEM system(luxury car system like Benz, Bmw's, Audi etc) which was cheaper and they worked perfectly fine. I purchased the set HT member Jracer1, who works for a junker.

are u having JDM front end? if yes, u should get the OEM hid. it looks lots better than those stupid conversion hid. Conversion is conversion. Don't waste ur money on the conversion kit. Get the real factory hid kit plz. the lens are totally making a big different. and use Japanese Philps or Bellof D2S replacement bulbs to get the BEST result. it worth the money.
Yeah but $1200! That's money that can be spent on other things.. I'm sure a Philips kit added on to a Non-Hid front end would be far better than the hyperwhites I'm using now. Do you guys agree?
Just **** the JDM front end....then this whole HID thing won't even be an issue. THEN you can get some cams and no one will even see your front end.
the new 6000k bulbs will look much more hid like than the oem hids
Ok, that is funny...

Ok, that is funny...

Ross: I agree 100%
i thought we covered this before?
if we are talking jdm coversion w/hid, then yes it's worth it. my friend has a 96specr conversion with the phillips hid setup and his beam pattern is all wrong (there is no horizontal cutoff) and it's causing him grief with the police. i'm told that the 2nd gen jdm dc2r hid setup is even better...
i used to have a 96specr non-hid with hyperwhites... no comparsion.

wow that picture is tainted!!! lol
What are those 100,000k HID's!
But yeah OEM and aftermarket kits are both good. If you want the best, OEM is no compairson to aftermarket HID kits. The main advantage is the OEM projectors and housings that are made especially for HID's. Go test drive a new car like the new 3series BMW, 5series, audi, etc... then go jump in a car with a aftermarket HID kit. You will see a difference I promise.
Trust me, I had normal JDM headlights with a Philips kit, then I got a OEM HID setup and the difference is crazy. Worth $1200, um IMO no cuz I would rather have a Mugen seat under my ***, or some nice engine mod, but I was offered a deal I could pass up for them. If I didn't get that deal would I still go and get OEM's? After seening the difference yeah totally! However I'm weird and I obsess over weird things so
