Spoon N1 Axleback, and general Axleback questions...
Just wondering if there were any guys on the board using the Spoon N1 axleback, looking for feedback. Also, I have heard that axlebacks tend to have a lot more bottlenecks than catbacks. Right now I have the Apex'i N1, but am thinking of switching to the Spoon N1 axleback. What can I do to get rid of the bottlenecks if I go with the Spoon?
it's light and $$$... not too loud and your not going to get much hp from just an axle back.

I will, if everything works out, be using the Spoon N1 pretty soon, but I'm also getting the B-pipe...you need a Type One b-pipe, or there's one other one that will fit, but I can't remember what it's called. That will eliminate the bottleneck in the B-pipe but I think there will still be one between the B-pipe and the muffler, but from what I've been told, it's a pretty small one.
The reason I'm getting the Spoon N1 is because my insurance is replacing my muffler for up to $300, and I'm eating the rest of the difference. But for you, spending $400+ for the muffler and around $300+ for the B-pipe just isn't worth it. You won't get that much extra hp, and you'll have to wear earplugs in your car. I know it's attractive just because it's Spoon, but you've already got a perfectly fine N1-spec exhaust.

You beat me to it, yes now the N1 is 63mm, so no Bottle neck on it, System is VERY Loud, louder than your Apexi. You can use an S2000's N1 Silencer on it, but you have to drill a hole for the silencer.
But I'd probably agree with Ross that its not really worth switching out unless you really want the Spoon N1, The One Reason I would do it if I was you, is the fact that the Tip is much smaller (about 2.5") and sits high under the bumper compared to an Apexi, Tanabe etc.

Mr. Bartender, how much does the silencer affect performance when it's on? I assume when it's off, drilling the hole will have had no ill effects?
edit - Chris, I just saw your sig...LOL bro...

It will decrease performance a bit, Not as much as say a street type muffler would, But its easily removed for track events, and no No adverse effect from the hole
Does the silencer help with emissions at all, even the tiniest bit? I think I might be pushing it with the header/cat/exhaust so it would be nice if it did.

Has anybody done this?
I have heard a few, and the only one that was really TOO loud was one being used with a test pipe.
Shane (dragem on H-T) has one on his S2K. he takes the silencer off at the track and it's still not horribly loud. It's a much more masculine tone than other free-flowing exhausts.

I used to have the Spoon N1 with the Apex'i b-pipe. The Spoon N1 is very light but expensive for an axleback. It also very loud on my car with only I/H/E.
And when I installed the TODA Spec B, it became so DAMN LOUD that even my friend that have a N1 exhaust on his car said he can't stand it. (He said he won't drive the car on the highway with me unless I change the exhaust. And he is the kind of guy that drive his car around town with the N1 and no silencer on!!!) Needless to say that my gf don't like it too. So I took it out and sell it for $150Cdn to a friend that have a relatively stock car and brought the Kakimoto R catback, and I DID NOT regret about it one bit at all!!!

hey chris whats wrong w/ your apex n-1??? i wouldnt waste your money...id get something else..like those jun 3's you told me you wanted....spend your cash wisely...although i wouldnt mind having a spoon n-1.....
Chris should just get 2 engines - a turbo'd non-VTEC B20, and his B18C5 w/Jun 3's...that way he'll stop waffling about which one he wants, and he can just switch em back and forth...lol
hehe with your extra insurance $$ I think you should just get another car. Make your R allmotor and use it for autox and road course, and get an LS and turbo it and get JDM front and all the cosmetic goodies, and that'll be your street/drag/impress your buddies car.
Actually, I have my Mclaren for that hehe... Nah, but for real, my friends Dad owns one.. Of course he is David Ellison, son of Oracle Owner or whatever (2nd richest man in the world)... That car is a beauty.. I got to sit in the drivers seat, and go for a ride! hehe..
Ross, some added costs came into play, no more extra insurance money
