Does anyone know the torque specs for the '98-01 accord cylinder head bolts (4 cylinder)? I searched but could only find specs for the '91 accord. thanks in advance.

The purpose of measuring the diameter of each bolt is to make sure it hasn't stretched. If the diameter is not consistent it means the bolt has stretched and you need to replace it. You tighten the bolts in 3 (?) stages. The first stage you use the torque wrench. The second and third you turn the bolt a specified number of degrees. I will look up the details tonight.

You only gave half the information. If this guy torques his head to 22 lb's and thinks he is done, he is going to be a little upset when he blows another gasket.

well he seemed honda knowledgeable and only wanted a number for a torque spec so i assumed he already knew what to do from there.....only reason i typed all that ish out was for verification, guy.....

All this is per Haynes manual.
Step1 22lbs
step2 Tighten an additional 90 degrees
step3 Tighten an additional 90 degrees

If you are using new bolts:
step4 Tighten an additional 90 degrees

This is for 1998-2002 Honda Accord.
.

Yes, I know this is an old forum but since I was looking for this same information not too long ago and found it I figured I'd reply to make it easier for others. MAKE SURE TO LOOK AT THE RIGHT SIDE OF INSTRUCTIONS TOO !! After torquing bolts you must turn to first mark (90º) then second (another 90º) and if new head bolts then finish to last mark ( one more 90º) making it a total of 180º or 270º if new bolts. Just want to make it dummy proof for those who are new to mechanics. Keep your dreams alive and build your car up !!
