Default Code 17 using oem cable speedo + CEL on 89 crx si

I'm getting an annoying code 17 and my speedo wire is intact behind the cluster and even by the ecu. Resetted the ecu and after a bit of driving, again. My spedometer works fine. My check engine light also comes on if I brake hard. But the car runs fine. I just hate that bright *** check engine light and ecu code! Anybody else experience this problem?

BTW code 17 = VSS

do you have a jdm cluster or the one that came with your car if its the factory one and your not using an electronic vss check to see if the cable is all the way in the trans if it is pull it out and pull on the very end to see if the cabel is actually broken. mine broke a cabel is only $36 from honda

I have the factory SI cluster and the cable looks fine. Speedo also works fine.

if the wire has continuity from the cluster to the ecu, then you have to consider the possiblity that the vss inside the cluster is failing and not outputting the proper siganl to the ecu.

or, bad ecu.
