Default Ball joints?

Buying a 89 civic si hatch back tomorow...its all good, but needs ball joints...hes not sure if its upper or lower...how can i tell wich ones are bad? and how hard are they to replace? I also have a 91 integra, i hear i can take the knuckles and swap them over...would the ball joints be part of the knuckle swap? and would it be easier to swap the knuckles, verses replacing the ball joints?!

lower balljoints are part or the knuckle swap...for upper balljoints you need the whole upper control arm, around 50 a side on ebay or 100 a side from honda...ill be doing that soon...lower balljoints are on the knuckle and pretty easy to take off, you need a pair of snap ring pliers and a BFH...
