Default Vtec looses power.

b18c. GSR block, CTR head. B17 cams, 1st gen b16 IM and TB.

Obd1, chipped P28 stock ITR maps.

It pulls well up to vtec, hits vtec and it just dies, you can hear the imediate change in exhaust note, but the car stops pulling as hard and it really sucks.

No codes, good oil pressure etc. Vtec IS kicking in, it just looses power, it shouldnt do this.

Could it be my cams restricting it perhaps? along with my IM and TB setup?

Thanks any sugestions apreshated

that was the worst answer ive ever heard, theres nothing wrong with your cams, it could be tuning though, probably something wrong with your engine though . . . . . its definately not the throttle body or intake mani . . . . good luck fixing that

I dont think its mechanical..

Engine is rebuilt with all OEM 30,000KM to date. 210 Compression across board, I had the oil pan off 3k ago and it looked very good. Valve adjustment, Oil changes every 3k. Starts first crank when cold in freezing weather, never jerks or stalls etc. Engine runs extemely well.

Valve timing is 0'0 on cam gears, Igntion timing is 16deg TPS is at 4.5V at WOT. Fuel pressure 42psi.

I thought it might have been the cams and or Intake mani/tb. Since they are far less then what is stock in this setup, maybe restricting the airflow needed for vtec? I really dont know.

Im starting to think it could be the tune, anything i should check, or reasons before changine the tune?

Its not just me, it hits about 6.5k and exhaust note changes and it feels like i let off the gas half way, it keeps reving but dosent pull as hard before vtec. I thought vtec should pull just as hard before or harder, not less. There is a problem.

Any other sugestions? I was thinking about CTR cams, a Abes IM and a ITR/GSR ported TB for future mods.

Where is your vtec activation point ?
Your fuel pressure should be at 48-52 psi at WOT.

i dont have a indash fuel pressure gauge. At idle with the vac on its 42psi. Is this too low?

Vtec is 5800rpm.

Your fuel pressure is good, and the vtec point is fine. It's not mechanical, if you can try a different ecu it would't hurt.

My chips should be here soon, i will burn a new program. If it still occurs i will chip another P28, and even it its something else. I will sell the chipped p28 people are paying crazy money for these things.
