Default BAD GAS MILEAGE??? WHAT IS THE PROBLEM

92 Integra GSR VTEC. 223,000 Miles. I am only getting around 200 miles per tank driving around the city. I've filled up and drove the car until it was empty twice. Each time I got just around 200 miles. I shifted everytime at 3000rpm (sometimes I slipped and shifted at 3500-4000) and still am getting bad milleage around town. What are the possible problems? The car is stock except for a AEM Cold Air Intake. The car has the cat and stock muffler. I've tried going through the manuals but don't wanna spend money guessing. Any help would be great.. Thanks.

It's city driving not freeway miles, getting 200 is about right.

When was the last time your car had a tuneup??

Some things you may want to change/inspect:

1) Cap & Rotor
2) Air filter
3) Fuel filter
4) Spark plugs ( Check your plugs and see if you're running rich)
5) Tire pressure

Also, depends on the state you live in, they may have switched to their winter formula, which often yields lower gas mileage.

I've been getting approximately 200 miles to a tank as well. City driving from full to empty. I just paid $700+ for my car to get serviced at the dealership (90k + timing belt/water pump).

I'm not sure what's going on because I used to get 220-240 before I took my car in to get serviced and before I threw out my carsound cat for an OEM unit.

so you got better mileage before the tune up and with an aftermarket cat.. hmm.. thats crazy.. cars can sometimes be a BIG pain in the ***.. im thining im going to change the fuel filter and put new spark plugs in and see if that does anything..

when you do plugs avoid bosch....... get ngk's or the oem denso's my choice is the ngk's

start with little things. figure if your car has that many miles on it..it would be nice to have fresh items.

New O2 Sensor was installed back in october. Car idles fine. Sometimes when I accelerate fast, the car feels like it get stuck around 3500-4500 but keeps going.. once it gets past that "stuck" point, the car just hauls ***.. im not sure.. what the deal is.. if there is not enough fuel getting there or what.. and sometimes, but not all the times, when idling, the car will dip low and feel like its about to stall.. hasnt happened in a few weeks.. i think that was the spark plus which correct..

I had a similar problem when I first bought my Integra. This is what I did, although you might have other issues. First off I was getting about 220-240 miles per tank. So I changed the plugs, advanced the timing, put a new cap and rotor on, cleaned all contact points for primary and secondary on ignition coil. Secured an ignitor wire. Finally, increased the tire pressure from 25-35 PSI. All these things helped but I think the new cap and rotor, advancingthe timing, and the ignotor wire were the main issues. Oh one other thing to check. Make sure your brake pads aren't rubbing on the rear rotors, or that you might have a partially siezed caliper in the front. Anyway, now I get 320 miles per tank. Definitelyhelps when gas is $2 a gallon.

Mostly city. Around the are doing mostly 45-55 MPH because I live in rural area.

Have yet to really take a long highway trip, but my Integra does 3500 RPMs at 65 MPH, which does not thrill me and is noisy on the highway. I love the car but I wish it had a higher 5th gear or a 6th ^_^
