-Extra powerful transmissions with 8 infrared LEDs. Runs on either 4 internal AA batteries (not included) or an external 12V lead-acid battery for extra long life and extra power.
-6' external power cable (included) with alligator clips for quick and easy connection to a lead-acid battery
These look nice. What are people opinions on these compared to GPS type devices?

I also think these units look very nice. I just read the PDF manual and everything looks good. I e-mailed them to see why the unit cannot display live split times though if you have extra split time beacons set up. That would be nice. As for GPS units, I have a Race Technology unit and love it, but info is only visible after a download and not live as you drive. The two units would not replace each other but rather complement each other. I think I might buy one as it seems to do a lot more than the Longacre unit.

I thought it was such a good deal that I ordered one for a race car I don't even have!
Yes, I'm nuts, but you can never have enough cool toys, right?

Support for true split times — multiple transmitters may be placed around the track and intermediate times within each lap will be recorded. Our transmitter has an additional switch that selects between "start/finish" and "split" — you set up one transmitter in the start/finish mode and any number of other transmitters around the track in split mode. The Ultra-Lap can tell the difference between the two because a different frequency of infrared pulsing is used. The "start/finish" frequency will still be compatible with AIM devices. The "split" frequency will not trigger the AIM devices.
Humm.. Place one transmitter on track setup in "split" mode and ppl with Hot Lap Timers won't be able to detect it. And your entire lap will show us as the split.
Does this sound logical, thoughts?
