Default ls rev limit

i'm putting together a 1990 hatch with a 1992 b18a and an obd0 pr4 and i was gonna switch to obd1 and run uberdata on an obd1 pr4. i was wondering what is the highest i can rev without valve float, spinning a bearing, or throwing a rod...

I pull my LSVTEC to 8100, on the LS bottom... Been fine for years. Get some ARP rod bolts.

8100 rpm on an LSVTEC with a head that comes stock with stiffer, dual valvesprings... And do you have those ARP rod bolts in yours? cause he doesn't.

7000 would be about as far as you need to go on an LS engine without them. Besides, the LS cams don't keep generating power up there anyways... And the flow on the LS head probably wouldn't cut it either.

I agree! A stock B18a, B18b doesnt make power beyond 6000-6300 rpms anyway! Check my sig for a dyno of a stock LS!

When you start building I'll be glad to give you advice, but if you decide to keep it as is, dont take it past 6300 rpm b/c you wont make anymore power!

Understood, All I said was - an LS bottom end is good to 8000 RPM... so IF he built the head for those RPMs, the bottom end would be fine.

portflow valvetrain is what you want.

i'm assuming you're just gonna run a tuned near stock LS setup with bolt ons and uberdata?

When I had my ls/vtec, I took it to 9k rpms when racing with stock valve train. I had arp rod bolts and itr oil pump. The car is still running and no problems yet.

OMG... Okay... ONCE AGAIN... Stock valvetrain in an LS/VTEC is SIGNIFICANTLY STRONGER THAN LS VALVESPRINGS/RETAINERS... AND HE DOESN'T HAVE ARP ROD BOLTS OR AN ITR OIL PUMP...

Since people want to chime in on their setups with an LS bottom end revving to super high amounts, mine has seen beyond 9k as well... But mine is NOT ANYWHERE NEAR A STOCK LS so that's why I DIDN'T POST OMG YOU CAN REV TO 20K NO PROBLEMS... Mine sees 9 because it had Eagle H-beams on JE pistons with ITR oil pump, b16 head with ITR springs/retainers, and much more... BUT IT'S IRRELEVANT.

Damn.

I only stated that it had arp rod bolts and itr oil pump because that may be a factor to why it has lasted, thats all.

Stock LS head and block ?

7500 rpm is about the safe limit for both ends as per a performance oriented Honda master tech. You won't make much power out of the cam after 7k tho.

Yes, this is true! STOCK MOTOR HOWEVER YOU DO NOT WANT TO GO PAST 6300, B/C YOU WONT MAKE POWER BEYOND THIS POINT!!!!!

And if you plan to build a setup that will make power to 8000+ rpms you want SHOTPEENED RODS, NEW BEARINGS, and ARP ROD BOLTS(8mm)!

i out a "chipped" p75 ecu into my eg when i was running a ls with pr3 pistons, stock cams.. it moved the revlimiter to 7500, but all it was doing was revving higher.. wasn't going any faster or pulling hard.. should have dynoed it against my stock p75.. never got a chance
