Default T1R 2.5" B-pipe with Mugen TL

Here's an interesting thought. I installed a T1R 2.5" B-pipe on my ITR with a Mugen TL muffler. For those of you who don't know it, the Mugen b-pipe is almost 2" before the resonator, almost 2.25" after the resonator, and 2.5" at the muffler joint.. this is one of the nicest sounding exhausts but not the best flowing. On the other hand, the T1R is almost a true 2.5" exhaust but the muffler is not nearly as quiet as the Mugen TL. So, why not combine them ?? To make this story short, I used the front part of the T1R (part with the resonator) and had a custom 2.5" mandrel-bent rear section to connect to the Mugen axle-back completing the 2.5" setup. The result, MUCH better flow than the Mugen exhaust or my old Gredd EVO2 while keeping the nice Mugen TL deep tone we all love. The car feels a lot more powerfull and torque is definitely improved. I will be taking a trip to the dyno in the next few days to confirm the ***-dyno results but I am certain the ***-dyno is on the money this time.. Here's a few shots of the rear section custom-made to the Mugen TL.

I'll get some better shots with the car raised but I hope these show enough to give you guys an idea of the project.

Sound on this setup is just sweeeeeet !! Nice, deep, and quiet for daily driving and loud and mean enough to scare people away at speed

Here is the Mugen TL connected to the custom 2.5" b-pipe rear section. Yes, the Mugen is filthy

Here's a shot of the rear section piece. They used a single mandrel joint cut in two pieces and extended with a center piece. This actually nice because it retained the 2.5" diameter and cut down the bends to two where the T1R is a three-bend piece.

Finally, this is where the rear section joins to the original T1R front section of the b-pipe.

BTW, there is no rubbing or rattling so far. I wanted to drive the car a couple of days to see how it behaves before going back to the shop to check for clearances and movement of the system. If you look at the second pic, you can see that the pipe almost rubs with the corner piece (it was bent a little).. I think I'll shave off about an inch here to make some extra room... no big deal.

The Mugen b-pipe starts at around 2" up to the front part of the resonator. After the resonator, it grows to almost 2.25". The axle-back (muffler) joint is very very very close to 2.5".

I did a photo-shoot of the Mugen TL, Greddy EVO2, and ITR OEM exhausts some time ago .. Here's a link ..

Sound is basically the same Mugen TL note with maybe a little deeper note from bottom to top end. Still very quiet but noticeable at high RPMs.. not raspy at all. Its more a "vroom" than a bumblebee effect.

I measured the Mugen muffler joint a few times to try and get the exact diameter but my 25-cent ruler didn't help .. It did mate up perfectly to the b-pipe which is a 2.5".

I'm a bit tied up for time right now but I'll try to shoot a small video so you can hear the sound.

Pics of the pipe coming up

Here's a pic of the Mugen TL on the car .. if you look closely you can see the custom 2.5" behind the rear suspension.

Yep !! That's the ticket I had a flange made as well as the complete rear section of the T1R just because I didn't want to modify the T1R or the Mugen TL. The Mugen flange is HUGE !! From bolt to bolt there are 4.75 inches !!

Did your T1R bottle-neck at the muffler end ?? Mine closes up to about 2.25"..
