Default 2000 Accord HU Problems.

I just got a 2000 Accord LX, I took my new HU out of my old car to replace with the stock HU from the Accord. I took the stock HU out and being the dumass I am, I cut the harness wires from the blue connector that goes into the HU. I bought a harness that connects the stock HU connector to my new HU. Then I bought the stock harness, and got a schematic to show what the old color wires are for. I spliced the old harness with the new harness, made sure all the wires are right.. Battery to battery and Ignition to Ignition, etc. Every since I cut the stock harness my back tail light's don't go on when I turn my head lights on. After I hooked up the new HU correctly, nothing works still. The HU doesn't work nor does my tail lights. I checked for blown fuses, but had no luck with that. Someone told me I could of shorted a system in the car. If this is true, how would i go and find if I shorted something out.?

1 more question to add to this. One of my friends is selling me a vtec controller for cheap, does anyone know about when does the vtec kick in rpm wise?
