Default Just Purchased a 98 Prelude SH... what should i do?

Hey guys, I just got a used 98 lude type SH, with 39000 miles... looking for stuff to put into it, since i bought it bone stock.. i was looking to spend about 2-3 grand at most at first on it, and was looking for best bang-for-buck after market parts to put into it.. i was thinking of going Supercharged, cuz turbo is alot of maintanence.. any ideas?
Thanks

turbo it. i was going the n/a root, then i realized that for the money i was putting into the car trying to achieve 215fwhp n/a, i could be running in upwards of 300fwhp safely with a good turbo setup. now i've got my boost on the way, and as soon as i can gather all of the parts up it's goin on.

Good luck with boost and a stock H22A4. It'll be nice till you get greedy.
And for only $2-$3k? You'll have to buy all used stuff just to get all the parts you need.

Start off simple the usual I/H/E (Intake, Header, Exhaust) then go from there!! Good Luck. My girl actually bought the 2001 Prelude type SH in EBP. It's SWEEETTT !!

If it were mine, i would look for a good deal on a slightly used JRSC. I know a lot of people complain about JRSC not being as good as Turbo, but I do not feel that way. For a nice street driven car that is going to be reliable and quick, the JRSC is the way to go. I would put one on my Prelude motor if they would fit the Accord chassis.

If you race frequently and are serious about netting some fast times(ie. under 13 sec.) then the easiest way is to go turbo or use nitrous. And, like what was previously said, you'll have to have one hell of a hook up, steal, or find some good used parts to slap a turbo kit together for $3,000. Nitrous is easily the cheapest, most rewarding modification you can do to a car. However it has some rules, which have to be followed and you only have the extra power when you're spraying, so you can race with 280 hp and then drive home with 200 hp.

I thought the SH's freaked out when you really pump up the power?

I agree with James, look into the JRSC. It will most likely be much more headache free than a turbo setup. I've heard too many problems with people trying to get their turbo ludes to run well.

Hey Thanks guys, My total goal isnt gonna be 3k$ for the car, thats just what i wanna start out puttin into it right now. I have a 94GSR, Nosed, I/H/E everything... but the bitch has been givin me **** lately... most recent problem is bent valve and broken CV Joint... need to replace both.... but she's held up very well when it comes time to race...... But it's time to sell her and the money from her sale will go into the lude...
I was initially thinking of either going turbo or SC.... but SC is easier to work with, and I'm not tryin to hit any 8 second goals in my life... lol.. just enuf to beat **** talking stangs and camero's

read more (much more ) about various experiences with the jrsc on the prelude at preludeonline.com in the forced induction forum.

i've got one on my lude... suffice it to say it's not quite as nice and easy as one would like.

I've heard that the problems with the SH is that the ATTS does not like boost. When the ATTS detects the boost it throws an engine code (CEL), this de-activates the ATTS and that puts the car in safe mode. I cant remember exactly how that directly affects the Turbo, but I do know that the Turbo will deactivate the ATTS.

most people that have Turboed SH's just turn of the ATTS completely.

that's not really true. while the ATTS computer does read the MAP signal, all you need to do is make sure it sees the same clamped MAP voltage that the ECU does. i drove my car many thousands of miles with boost and ATTS before seeing the light come on. both times it has come on have been while accelerating at relatively high speeds under boost. it does not put the car in "limp mode," the atts just gets disabled.

nobody really knows what causes it. my guess is that the two clutches in the unit start slipping under the increased load, the computer detects this, and shuts it down.

Choose your route:
-N/A
-Forced Induction
-NOS
-Supercharger
-Turbo
Turbo on stock internals is ok but stay under 7-8 psi.
resist the temptation of " i can beat him if i boost more" otherwise you'll be needing a new engine

Supercharger = reliability with some power.

Nos you can squeeze 75 shot safely.

I know someone with I/H/E/VAFCand 50 shot nos and she takes out a lot of people, including rustangs .

How much did you buy the 98 SH for? I'm in the market for a 97+Prelude base 5sp or SH or a 94+GSR.
