My parents are gonna kill me!
So I'm pumped! I bought my first bike today...FINALLY. It's a 1996 CBR600 with smokin' joes fairings. Anyway, I left and was like I'm going to buy a bike. I guess my mom didn't believe me because when I got home my mom and dad flipped out. They're like "why why why would you buy that?" I just grinned. Then, while my dad was helping me unload it, he said "if you crash this thing and hurt yourself I'm gonna take a sledge hammer to it. Reeaaallll mature. Like there will be anything useful left if I crash it. Plus, it's not the bike's fault. He should sledge hammer me. Oh well, I'm 23 and they can not like it all they want. It's kind of funny how worked up they got....I've been promising that I would be getting one for months now. I'd think that they would have seen it coming.
Luckily, I work out and am stronger that my dad; otherwise he and my mom would be pummeling my *** all over the house.
He does have that incredible "dad power" though. Like even when your dad is 75 and you are 35, he could still whoop your *** without even trying.
Hey guys, is there any way to shmooz these crazy parents? Or just give em time to let the fire in their eyes die?
HELL YEAH I GOT A NEW BIKE I FEEL LIKE DANCING AROUND AND SINGING AND MAKING INDIAN NOISES AND FLAILING MY APPENDAGES AROUND IN THE AIR!!!!
Man, I'm excited! ...Just thought I'd say how excited I am!

i would have saved the cash for first, last, and deposit. then your parents opinions tend to hold much less weight.
but grats on your first bike, keep the rubber side down and all that.

they're concerned about your well-being so you need to show them that you're a smart and responsible rider. hopefully you bought some gear (at least a helmet) and took the msf course. if not, leave your bike in the garage until those two things are taken care of. that would be the non-squidly thing to do.
good choice on your first bike. ride safe

why? i enjoy living in the guest part of my parents house; it's better than the $1k a month I used to pay to rent their other house.

rent free is hard to leave, at least while your in school. i did the same, i just brought my first bike home and said surprise look what i got. it was when i was 19 and if i would have told them before hand it would have just been a huge argument. it wouldn't have stoped me though.

I know living at home is great and all, free food, no bills. But I would't want to stay there forever. I know it's nice while you're in school but at 23 he's prolly in his 5th or 6th year of college I'd wanna be out by then. On a side note, my parents don't even know about my bike. I'm still trying to break it to them.
hahah i remember when i got my 1st bike ,i did the sme thing. My Dad always had bikes when i was growing up and her BF has always been around bikes. So i said fuggit one day, Im getting one , She flipped and said if i came home with one she would throw me out. ... I came home with one the same day. She got over it. I havent lived there for a few years now, but everytime i go up there to ride with her BF, she still gives me the motherly Be Careful thing. Its a parent thing , dont sweat it

haha
haha
I'm still trying to figure out how to break it to my parents when I get mine. My dad is a little more understanding than my mom so that should be no problem considering he used to ride but my mom is a huge worrier and it sucks cause I don't want her to flip out everytime I dont answer my cell or something, you know??
I was 35 when I got my first bike and I got some crap from my parents. I told them I am 35 years old, I am my own man and I will do what I want. My mother said good for you, you have wanted a motorcycle since you were 12. My father will sometimes give me crap.
when i was like 12 and riding with my parents and some bikes would fly by i was always like "man, i can't wait till i get a bike" and i would see my dad looking at me in the rear view mirror to be quiet so my mom doesn't get upset .. then she'd get all pissy and eventually come to her realization, err ... denial, that i'm just saying that to make her worry.
Well i'm 18 now, and have showed up with 2 bikes .... and they're cool with it. She wants me to paint it red lol

I was thinking the same thing...
23 and still living at home.... wonder what he says to potential dates?
Congrats on purchasing the bike, but maybe you should re-consider your life ambitions next time around.

LOL.... my dad hates bikes. I never said a thing about it before I got it cuz I knew he'd try everything to talk me out of it, and even after I got it I didn't tell him right away. About 2 weeks after I got it I got cought in a serious t-storm pouring down rain, hail, the works, right when I was leaving work. I waited until it stopped, then started heading home (25 miles, rush hour traffic). Couple miles and it starts raining again, so I turn around and go to my dads house (which is right across the street from my work). He comes home from work a little while later to the pleasant suprise of a new bike sitting in his driveway. First thing is says is... "You're riding that? Is it yours?" followed by "well I still wouldn't ride one of those things on the streets down here... too many idiots on the roads". I got the usual parent lectures, but overall he took it alot better than I thought he would, given his opinion on bikes and riding them on the street. He still took me out for pizza that night, so I guess it wan't that bad, LOL. My mom on the other hand, was totally cool with it. I told her I was getting one before I got it, and right away when I did get it. Of course she was still worried about my safety, but she thought it was cool and liked it. She was just like "well be real careful, and you'll have to call me more often now so I know your not dead!" hahahah.... thanks mom!
When I was 18 I told my parents I was going to get one before they went on vacation, they just thought I was joking until they arrive home 3 weeks later to see a cbr 600 sittin in their garage. They werent to happy but got over it pretty quick until a year later when I went down, then I got the "I told you so" kinda talk. Good choice on your first bike.

im 19 and when i broke it to my mom and dad i thought they would have taken it REAL BAD! but surprisingly they didn't. i can tell they worry about me cuz every time i got out its the same thing, "be careful". When i told my dad i was getting one he said "i hope you don't do what i do every time i get on a bike..." me: "what" dad: "crash it" i was like what???anyway Ive been riding since July and Ive had a couple of close calls but no more then driving a car. It was even harder to break it to my girlfriend
IMPORTANT:
Always remember this...
Your Bike WILL Be The Death Of You!!!
Respect It...
the average sport bike in CA is totaled 7 months after its bought
I strongly suggest you go and take the MSF course. don't be like "only beginners take that, i know how to ride." When i took it 1/2 the people there had been riding for years, your going to show up on your RR and everyone will be all "wow" if your worried about telling your friends your taking a safety class tell them its to lower you insurance (average is 10% lower) Even the people that were there (when i did) that had been riding for 5 years+ ALL said wow i learned a lot.
this will also tell your parents that you are trying to go the right way about it being safe and all....
Good luck!

I was 17 when i got my first bike
But
for gettin a bike, and seeing as you're 23, i'd hope you could come up with some better arguments other than "i could beat up my dad"
I also hope that you can figure out how to write a paragraph
