The Hoosier 04, My Experience So Far
Well, I now have some serious time on this tire under my belt, and can give a little bit more useful feedback. Given it was my first set, I made sure to properly heat cycle them (using Hoosiers guidelines) and have been tracking heat cycles and minutes on track to get an accurate measure on wear.
Note: My car is light and easy on tires, your results may vary.
Note 2: I have not yet visited an abrasive, tough on rubber track with them.
What these tires now have on them...
Heat Cycle #1 - 10 minutes at Barber and then put up overnight.
HC 2 - 15 minute qualifying, Barber
HC 3 - 30 minute race, Barber (close to track record)
HC 4 - 15 minute qualifying session, Road Atlanta
HC 5 - 15 minute qualifying session, Road Atlanta
HC 6 - 45 minute race, Road Atlanta (3rd at ARRC, close to track record)
HC 7 - 40 minute qualifying session, Road Atlanta (class pole)
HC 8 - 180 minute enduro, Road Atlanta (won it, fast lap)
Thats 5 hours and 40 minutes and 8 heat cycles. The tires were still performing well at the end of the ARRC sprint race (Cycle 6), Enduro qualifying (7) and the 3 hour enduro itself (number 8).
All four tires have at least 1/32 of tread depth left. I'm guessing at least another weekend, maybe two. As far as heat cycling out, they haven't yet. I suppose I'll be able to answer that question with HCs 9 and 10, but from what I've been told, they'll still be just fine.
I'm impressed. Hoosier has made the tire faster, but longer wearing. They also don't overheat as easily as the old tires when overdriven and pushed hard. And I pushed them really, really hard for 20 straight laps in the ARRC Sprint. They never fell off the least little bit.
Good stuff.

They are better tires for heat cycles..
Old Hooser
HC 1 breakin,
HC 2 Stinkin fast
HC 3 Stinkin fast
HC 4 Why is my understeering
HC 5 Swap tires, car is sideways everywhere
HC 6 still tread, can't be the tires, waste time figuring out whats going on
HC 7 Just put it into a wall or flatspotted, damn I can't drive!
New ones, Much better lasting with heat cycles, actually tire wear is only slighlty better from what I remember...

I also have similar experience as Scott's experience. When I ran Kuhmo V700, when the tire went away, my car felt like it had a couple of bars of soap up front. Running on year old Hoosiers (new compound), the tires went away but not nearly as bad as the Kuhmos. Actually, I could still through the car around.

Your car is way heavier than mine with about 125 more horsepower. Yeah, your tires are going to wear pretty fast
.
I could get about 12 usuable heat cycles out of the old tires, but they would start falling off after about 6. There would still be tread left, but no grip.
That 3 hour enduro has kind of skewed the curve on this set of 04s as far as wear is concerned, but after cycle number 8 they were still as fast as they were brand new, so I'm hopeful they'll last until the cords show.
BTW - Old 10ish heat cycle 03 Hoosiers are great for enduros. They aren't as fast as they are brand new, but they wear well and stay consistent the entire race.

Btw, what is the proper way to heat cycle them according to Hoosier guidelines? Thanks.

Do a few laps slowly working them up to temperature, carefully avoiding lockups. Last lap should be a hot one. Then take them off and set them aside for at least 24 hours.

...try running old hoosiers on a really cold day!!! I have about 3.5 hours on this set and maybe 6 heat cycles. I ran them today at VIR with Audi club just to finish them off. It was about 30 degrees during the first session and it was like driving in the rain
. About 55 deg by lunch and they finally thawed out, but were never very fast (I didn't expect them to be).

NOOOOOO!!!
I'm not saying its easy, and the mounter has to know what he's doing, but the 225/45s work just fine on the 6" wheel.
I've seen them on 5" wide wheels in Stock class autocrossing.

Scott is correct. They will fit on a 6in rim. Trustme, the person who is installing them better have a "tulip" style changer or lots of help. Have mounted them personally on both 5 and 6in rims..a bitch!
