Default 1995 Accord "D4" in dash flashing code #9 when shorting the diagnostic connector

Has anyone had the "D4" indicator in the shift panel on the dash flash code #9 when the diagnostic connector is shorted?

The car is a 1995 Accord 4 door LX with automatic transmission.

Does this generation accord flash both engine/transmission codes via the "D4" indicator on the dash? Code 9 in the helms manual says "cylinder sensor".

Supposedly this sensor is internally a part of the distributor. Is this the correct? Anyone get this code before? Vehicle has only around 30,000 original miles.

Thanks in advance

Mark

I notice you have an H22. Well, mine does the same thing. It is a combonation of your ECU, tranny, and tranny ECU not recognizing each other. Mine started falshing once I put the P72 ECU in. Been riding like that for over a year, and have not had problems. It does not put the car in safe mode, so I would not worry about it. If you find a way to stop the flashing, let me know.

BigJames:

Actually the problem is with my mother's stock 1995 Honda Accord LX 4 door sedan with automatic transmission. My car is a 1993 Accord with H22a engine/tranny and P72 ecu.

Check your vehicle speed sensor. Very common problem. Is the speedo acting weird at all?

I installed a brand new speed sensor and the problem continues. Since code 9 is the cylinder sensor (which is located inside the distributor), i got a brand new distributor and installed it as well, but again, that isn't the problem either. My helms manual does not have any separate codes for any of the electrical components of the automatic tranny but looking at the engine codes, there are a few that relate to the automatic tranmission. Problem is, the "D4" shift position light on the dash starts to flash and i don't know what it is!

Curiously, the helms manual makes it specific that the check engine light is what flashes the codes. I don't get the cel flashing. When i jump the diagnostic plug, the check engine light stays on (does not flash) and the "D4" starts to flash 9 times, continuosly.

Help!

mark- hey, the auto tranny has a seperate ecu as you know. The codes are totally different from the ecu codes. 9 blinks on the d4 light on the auto means that there is a Disconnected countershaft speed sensor connector, or a sort or open in the wire or a faulty countershaft speed sensor. I had the exact same problem in my accord before. Its not the main speed sensor that you thought it was but a different one. Its the fartheset sensor twoards the end of the tranny opposite the engine side. On the backside of the tranny. Mine got snagged by the axle somehow and the wires got pulled out. Check it out . Hope thats the problem. -Kris

Default Hey Kris (infinkc)

Happy holidays and new year to you and your family! Nice to hear from you again.

Is this on the right side cover of the AT? There is something called the "main/counter pickup assemblies". These are two sensors. I am going to email you a copy of the diagram to see if i understand what you have said.

Thanks,
Mark

Wow, this is an old post but I think still relevant. I just had the right axle replaced. If the sensor is causing the D4 flashing light, would this also cause the speedometer to stop working or is that soley the VSS sensor. Thanks.
