Difference between jdm S1 tranny and USDM S1 tranny?
I'm buliding a all motor ls/vtec project and I just bought a b16 cable transmission. Now i'm hearing from a lot a differnt sources that that tranny i just got better be the JDM S1 and not the USDM. What they're telling me is that the JDM tranny is geared like a type-r, and the USDM is crap. Is this true? Is there any difference in these trannys? How can I telling if its JDM or not?
p.s. this motor is going into a '91 integra, so thats why I need a cable transmission

The S1 ONLY came in Japenese 2nd Generation Integras with B16As......Very tight gear ratios, excellent acceleration...........Lower top speed..........

what else u need to know?
jdm s1 is the short/tight geared and the usdm came off the 90-91 ls teg. the original tranny in my 91 teg is a s1, "longer gears." the tranny i have now is a jdm s1 which is shorter geared. two completely different transmissions.

arent the clutch discs for the 90-91 integra diffrent from the 92-93? if a 92-93 clutch disc fits your new s1 i think its safe to say that you have a jdm s1 right? because the JDM S1 are only available in 92-93? if a 90-91 integra clutch disc fits the tranny than you can assume that it is a USDM because USDM S1 are only available in 90-91? hope this makes sense ( and is correct). I also read in another post that JDM cable trannies have a yellow sticker on them with tranny code and the USDM trannies have a little plate that is riveted in the same location with the tranny code.

I am using a S1 tranny which came out of a 91 GS teg.
The input shafts are different the 90-91 is smaller than the 92-93.
So yeah, the clutch disks are different. Mine has a golden/yellow sticker on it that says S1 but I doubt that it is a Jdm tranny. The only real way to tell what he has is for him to open the tranny. Then count the teeth on the gear sets and get the ratios from there. I have only done that on a d-series ex tranny.

can anyone else confirm this? half the posts i read say the jdm s1 is small spline. BUT i ended up reusing my 93 clutch when i swapped trannies (which im told the 93 clutches are of the larger spline). so i guess those that say the jdm s1 is small spline are wrong?right?

I'm not sure why it worked, but S1s, J1s, and Y1s are supposed to use the disc from a 90-91. YS1s all US and JDM use the larger spline disc. Back in 99, I tried using my YS1 clutch on my Y1 and it didn't fit.

yea....wierd. and i know for sure because before i had the ys1 i had the u.s. s1(ls tranny) and the clutch from that did not fit the ys1. was too small to fit over the spline.
to the original poster....sorry for getting alittle OT.
