OT: How to setup a surveilence camera that feeds to a website?
I know it's OT, but how do I set up a digital camera hooked up to a computer to monitor a car... while I'm away at work/vacation/etc. by going to a website?
If that question is not clear...
1. I want a video stream on a web, that shows my car.
2. It must be accessible by web.
3. It must be on my own site.
If someone has done this, or is good at computer related stuff, that would be great.
(My idea was just running iSight hooked up to an iChat... but, I want the same deal that broadcasts on my own webspace.) Thanks.

why do you need it on your "own site"? there are tons of webcam sites out there you should be able to join, set up your webcam, and access the cam through that site anytime you want. the key would be making sure the video feed was real time/live and available whenever you needed it. I would also imagine this would be pretty easy to set up with a camera in your home garage, for those of us that have access to a garage. we all know they arent safe there either.
the best thing to do would be have some kind of sensor on the car that would trigger popup messages on your computer in case you werent viewing the site/cam when someone was ******* with your car.
this would be awesome. Id love to just set my car up as bait and have the cops on standby haha.

You can get IP based cameras. Many of these have FTP options to uploads pictures. I used to use one of these myself and it would FTP up every 15 seconds. There is also a utility for Windows XP in the Power Toys that allows you to do this same thing with a web cam hooked to a Windows XP PC. This would be the most cost effective. I would also assume that you are doing this from your home and have a cable modem there. Most cable modems have about a 256k upload speed which would not be very good for video. If you still have my # feel free to give me a call about it.

Are you going to have a PC in your garage or where ever you have the camera? If no, I recommend simply getting an IP based camera. You can get the Linksys wireless G camera for about $200 and you would be set.
