Factory radio says "CODE", wont work at all??? 94 gsr
Hey, for some reason my radio was working fine until something happened, don't know what, i could have hit a button or something but now it doesn't work at all, it just says CODE. I'm guessing its some kind of security feature?? is there a code i need to put in to get it to work again?? any help would be great thanks
Yes, look in your manual.
When the power is disconnected from the radio, a security feature comes on. It disables the radio until a proper 4 digit code is entered. It should have come supplied with the car when you bought it new. If not, it should have been supplied by the previous owner. There might also be a sticker in your glovebox, owners manual, or on the radio itself if you remove it.
Keep in mind that if you enter the code wrong more than a few times, it totally disables itself and you will have to bring it to a dealer and provide proof of ownership.
If you can't find the code anywhere, bring the radio (or write down the serial number) and bring that, along with proof of ownership of the car to a dealer and they will tell you the code. Sometimes it's free, sometimes there's a minimal charge.

I think it disables itself after 4 or 5 incorrect tries.

there are a few places the radio code should be: under the ashtray, on the bottom of the fuse box cover or there should be a sticker on the outside of the glove box (if you in the driver's seat and open the glove box)...if yoiu enter the code more than three times, and the code you entered is wrong, it should bring up an ERR, if that happens, youi need to disconnect the negative battery cable for 10 seconds, then try again.
sorry if this gets you no where, but i know that's how the newer Acuras and Hondas work...not sure which year it started.

after like 4 trys, it just doesnt let u enter the code for about 15 mins. after that you can actually re-enter it
Yea i found this number written in the manual written right near where it talks about the problem, the only thing is it had a ******* 7 in it, i was pissed. but im gonna go check the fuse box and ash tray now
If it's your stock one, dealer would have the code by pulling up your VIN. If you bought it from someone else, you're pretty much screwed unless you have their VIN.
Take your radio out and look on top of it, thats where the serial number is located. Write the serial number down and take it to the dealership. But they usually ask for proof that you own the car.
it probably did disable itself--- you need to wait a certain amount of time... i ahd to pay 50 bucks at my goddam acura dealer for my code it sucked asscrack dude...
i called 4 delaers in the south florida dealer- if i got railed. the one in pompono said they had to charge me 65... belive it or not- 50 was the cheapest from 4 dealers lol... bastards
i agree that **** should be free, but techs gotta make a living...it does suck how much labor costs are (i work at a dealer and its flat out ridiculous!!!)
FLATE RATE HAS BOTH ITS UPS AND DOWNS...IN THIS INSTANCE, GOOD FOR DEALER, BAD FOR YOU.

they charged you for that ****? that's fucked up...
usually if they have to take the radio out they will charge youi an hour labor time (and we all know that Acura labor time isn't cheap)
but yeah, it only takes about 3 1/2 seconds to get that code...you should go demand a refund. youi should have just gone tot he parts department and had the retail guy do it...i used to do it for people.

haha i tried i even called like the regional **** to complain.... wanna hear the worst part?? i called them (and this was the same at 4 acura dealers) and they picked up, put me on hold for 15 minutes- then i gave them my vin and they said yep heres the code right here- and i was like "okay cool what is it," and got a pen he said um im sorry sir i cant give u the code- u have to drive here (25 minutes away) and pay us the 50 we charge for it.. i argued with him for 20 minutes then hung up and ripped the phone out of the wall from frustration. when i cooled off, i got in my teg, drove over there with NO RADIO CAUSE I NEEDED THE ******* CODE TO GET IT WORKING. every red light i looked down to see CODE staring at me in the face. so i finally arive and wait in line for 10 minutes... i swear ive never been so rude in my life. when i left they said "have a nice day" and i think i remember whispering **** off as i walked away. i got in my car and activated the alarm and wrote it on the manual so the next poor soul who owns my car/radio doesnt have to go thru this. i couldnt help bu thtink " did i really just pay 50 dollars for 5 numbers..." turns out i forgot my cd's so i flipped thru the radio stations to find commercials on every station. never felt such a big waste of money in my life.. sorry had to rant. theres my story... *******
i talked to my boss this morning about what happened to you, and his response was (quote)..."that's strong, its fucked up, but strong. how do they even get away with that ****? did they pull the radio for him? that's fucked up, they can't do that, they shouldn't do that!"
that was word for word what he said...maybe we just do things a little different. let me guess, the shop also wants to charge you an *** load of cash to do lame *** ****?
one of my buddies needed to get a bolt broken loose on some suspension piece, and when he went to a local shop, they wanted to charge him an hour labor to do it...i told him to give it to me, i took it into the shop and had a tech break it loose in about 2 seconds...NO CHARGE

well heres the thing. im adement about doing everything myself. i HATE leaving my car in someone elses hands and i havent done so since i bought the car... and no they didnt pull the radio for me, i removed the aftermarket radio to sell it, and put the stock back in because i needed money for my build... all i needed was for them to read the goddamn number to me. i couldnt belive what they made me do. number one- the price is OUTRAGEOUS, and number two- they made me drive SO FAR just so they could dictate 5 characters to me- its really rediculous. the only reason i dealt with acura was simply because there was no other way for me to get the code
