Default all motor set up on 99gsr questions

whats up H-T all motor guy. i got a 99 gsr w/ the following mods.
skunk2 manifold,
skunk2 valves, springs, retainers, STOCK CAMS, new ones waiting install
ctr pistons, rest of bottom end is STOCK
intake,
jdm dc sport 1 piece header
test pipe, apexi world sport cat back
it put down 170 whp on a dyno jet and like 132 ftlbtq.

basically i am concerend that the motor pumped 235-230-235-215. #4 is low and i am curious should i tear into the bottom end or just replace teh rings? which would make no sense what so ever. i wanna keep the ctr's if possible and replace the rods and rod bolts...
any suggestions are greatly appreciated. thanks

first of all, thats not really teribly low. the piston rings arent necessarily the problem. do a leakdown test on the motor and see where the air is going. if you hear noise out the tailpipe=exhaust valves, in the intake=intake valves, pull the radiator cap and see if there is bubbling=blown gasket, pull oil dipstick and listen for whistling, if you do its the rings. that is a big job to tear down the motor, so i would definitely make sure thats what it is before you go that far. hope that helps. good luck

Shaun

I'd go to a dealer because they usually have an abundance of tools. however, some speed shops probably have the equipment too. i dont know if youre familiar with the Whip Factory, theyre located in plainfield, IL. dave is the owner hes a good guy. theyre website is whipfactory.com. id recommend there or acura dealer
