What happens to totalled/recovered R's?
If the owner does not buy the car back from the insurance company, what does the insurance co. do with it? Especially in the case of a rarified machine like the R and the B18C5?
They auction it off to the highest bidder, But not anyone can go and bid, Usually its only Shops that are registered with these auctions.

Exactly!
Or you could make a great deal with the insurance company like I did and buy it back.
Why Ross? Just curious?

I was just wondering because I didnt know. Like if you buy the car back, ok maybe you fix it up like Warren did, or you sell it for parts, or you make a hybrid. But if you just decide "**** it" and let the insurance co. take care of it, obviously they don't know what kind of machine theyre dealing with. So I guess it goes to the auction.
Really, there's nothing behind what I'm asking, I was just wondering if all those wonderful parts go to waste or the scrapheap or something. I am stil planning on picking my car up, driving it home, and beating the crap out of it at the Speedtrial event. BTW - I was driving around in my Dad's car today, and I started thinking about the what the moment I get my car back will be like - and I got tears in my eyes. Maybe that should be a little worrisome?

So you get it back soon? I hope.
I had tears in my eyes today after swapping on my Pilot Alpins, they feel like riding on wet sponges. I never wish for white **** to fall but, I want to put them to use and I hate the cold without ANY snow.
BTW Ross I know why you drive like crazy, remember I lived near Hartford. THEY ALL DRIVE LIKE ESCAPED LUNATICS THAT FAILED THE DRIVERS EDUCATION CLASS!
The rest of the world just doesn't drive the same.
Atlanta is worse if you can believe it. And I know how DC and Maryland are, trust Me Atlanta is worse.
Happy new year everyone!

heh I dont drive that crazy. As in, I don't drive out of control...I do exceed the posted limits, but going 55mph in my R just doesnt seem right? I've always liked driving fast.
The reason my accident happened is that my mechanic decided to be a nice guy and switch my front tires to the rear while he was machining my rotors. I didnt want to be an *** and tell him to switch it back, I figured I'd just do it myself when I got back to school. Well, on the way, I hit a pothole with my front tires and the rear end swung out. It was totally sudden; no warning. I was doing about 45mph too...
So it's not quite a case of me pushing the limits and not being able to handle it. It was a freak accident that was exacerbated by an imbalance in the equipment. I also forgot to adjust the tire pressures once the tires had been switched...
I will accept that my accident was caused by improper judgment regarding my equipment. However, I will deny to my grave that it was caused by any action I took while I was in the car. The proof of that, to me, lies in the fact that my passenger at the time of the accident asked to ride with me again next time next time I made the drive back to school.
I have actually never posted this before, but I wanted you guys to see the true nature of the accident because unless you know what happened, it's quite easy to write me off as some young'un who doesn't know how to drive and wasn't respecting the car's limits, in the rain no less. This was my first accident above 5mph, and I was not issued a ticket. I consider myself a good and safe driver, and have learned a valuable lesson that being safe entails more than being in control of the car during your journey - it involves taking adequate precuations beforehand.

if u get it back and decided to sell parts i want the tranny...

My buddy totalled his a few months back. It sat at the dealers bodyshop for a week and they totalled it out. Then he had the chance to buy it back and said no and the insurance company sold it to a import salvage yard. It sat there for about a month and finally word got out about it and people started buying stuff (front seats $300, wheels and brand new Kumhos $500) off of it like crazy. I talked to the guy that worked there and he said, "I don't understand what the big deal is about this car, it is just a yellow Integra."
Obviously he had no idea what he was sitting on judging his prices.

if the insurance company has any brains, they recognize the special cars scrap worth. after mine was destroyed, I let them have it. I regret it though.
lol Miles...actually my car is a "he" - I think a car like the ITR is too bad-*** to be classified as a female that you baby and pamper. It's more like my buddy that helps me get girls and goes real fast. He's always dependable and does what you need him to, not like a girl. I'm told I'm the only ITR owner that doesnt call his car "she".
Yeah, I was under the impression that they get sold @ special auctions and most likely will end up at a Foreign auto salvage yard. There's a few of them here in Omaha and Lincoln. I bought my swap from on in Lincoln called Olston's Auto Salvage. They only deal with import parts.
*IF* I ever...and I mean a BIG *IF* (crosses fingers) wrecked my ITR, I would:
1) build a nice EK (CTR wanna-be).

or...possibly...
2) buy it back from the insurance company and sell everthing personally

Eks look so much better than EGs...I mean yes its lighter, but the front of the EK is a work of art. The coupe, while heavier, is even better. I had a 98 HX for 3 years and never got tired of looking at it. If I wanted a hybrid I'd get one of those, even though theyre heavier...theyre just beautiful cars.
Ross ~ honestly I like my EG better than a EK, but if I were to do a CTR hybrid wanna-be I'd have to go with the EK (no EG Type R in existence).
I think they both look good in their own way I guess.
The ITR looks better than either though.
Much more menacing. haha.

when I had my Civic, I thought it looked better than the Integra...until I saw the 98+ GS-Rs and the ITRs. I wonder what the best color on an EK would be? I'm not a fan of CW...maybe EBP or Imola Orange? or Diablo 6.0 Orange...I'm a riceboy.
I'm not a fan of CW...

I would just get myself a clean, silver EK hb and keep it silver.
Then I would transfer all the ITR parts that would transfer.
If I'm not mistaken...that's what Merritt did with hers. I can't remember what color her EK CTR wanna-be is though. Thread
