Type-R Mirrors?
I think those are aftermarket ones. In my never ending quest to find heated side view mirrors that will fit on my integra I came across something like what you have described. this web site has what I think you are talking about?

All Integras use the same mirrors on all models. The only differences are between 2-door and 4-door mirrors, and of course the change in the housing between 94-95 and 96-01.

Actually they changed over in 1996 to the mirrors w/ the contour line on it.
Smooth mirrors were only on 94-95.
I like to think of my mirrors as "hybrid" mirrors.
On 94-95, all the words like the part numbers and stuff were on the mirror housing, but on 96-01 they were on the mirror base. I'm using mirror housings from a 98-01 ITR and the original bases from my 94 mirrors, so my mirrors are totally smooth with no words or numbers or anything visible on them.

those were the style mirrors he saw on a type r and thought they were oem, but these are what he was looking for.

not sure why you would pay $250 to make your mirrors a quarter of the size they were
