Default j-spec d15b with ef si ecu, need help

this is going to sound like a real noob question but ohwell im asking anyways.
i didnt start getting into 'modding' until the engine crapped out, and i got a good deal on this engine swap.

i have swapped in a j-spec d15b sohc vtec
ive been running the stock ECU for this car. from what i was told by the guy that did the swap, he had the ECU sent to Toronto (ONT, CA) to have some "work" done to it. whatever it was they did, lowered when vtec engages.

at first, it was fun. lots of decent power. after awhile it started to kill the pockets. i was told by numerous people that i could use an ef si ecu (pm6). that this would rid of vtec and id lose a bit of performance.

i bought a pm6 from ottawa monday, got it tuesday. but ya, i hooked up the ECU last night, reset it just to make sure.

NOW, here is the question. i went out for a run last night just to make sure no codes would pop up under WOT or anything else. im thinking that the ECU didnt do anything, that vtec is still engaging, OR, i have no clue what vtec sounds like.

well if you're using an Si ECU then there's no way the VTEC is engaging

thats what i figured. that vtec should no engage...
but it sounds like i can still hear it.

when i have the drivers side vent open, when the engine reaches a certain RPM i could hear a something like a whinding whining sound.. which i was always led to beleive that it was the sound of vtec. and with the pm6, i could still hear it..

SO, anyone what the hell is vtec supposed to sound like.. yes im still a noob.
so this whinding whining type sound, i take it all the jdm d15s do this...

im lost

You don't have vtec unless you chip that ecu and run a wire for it. The sound of dual cam vtec is very obvious, single cam a little less so, but basically the engine note gets louder, more intake noise than without vtec. Example:

In this clip, vtec engages after 4 seconds.

It would be in your best interest to do a proper instalation with an obd1 conversion and say a P28 ecu. Your car would run much better like its suposed too, plus the obd1 ecu's are so easy to tune if you program through a uberdata or Hondata system.

neet, thanks man

maybe ill have to install the ecu that came with the engine.. not sure on the code, and screw around for a bit and find out when it does engage.. thanks for the mp3.

i think ill be keepin the pm6 tho for the time being. atleast over the winter up here in ONT. save up some money instead of spending **** loads for gas..

thanks ppl
