Are s2k's comfortable commuting cars??
i just sold my ek coupe(my first car, gonna miss it a lot
) because im going to be starting school in jan. and im going to be driving about 100 miles a day, 50 there and 50 back. ive always loved s2k's and am looking to get one. ive never driven one before but i wanted to ask the people who do drive their s2k's a lot if it is a comfortable car to commute that many miles a day in. im also going to leave it stock mainly because i want it to be comfortable and also cuz i wont really have the money to do much to it except appearence wise really. anyway just wanted to see wat you guys have to say! thanks

Besides the lack of a back seat, small trunk, and small interior, it's not bad but test drive one and you'll get a good feeling of how it'll be commuting it. Some do it, would I? no.

100 miles a day x's 5 days x's 4 weeks a month = ~2000 miles a month. That's non spirited most likely, just highway driving. The alignment on the car, without exercising the suspension will wear into the insides. Not a lot, but over time, with this kind of driving, yes. Expect tires to last a while, but only a bit longer than others have, due to the ease of driving. Predict at shelling out 600-850 on tires every 10-14K miles, if you get that far. The rears will probably last half as long as the fronts in normal conditions. Otherwise, on the track and spirited driving, I seem to get about equal wear.
Comfy? It can be. Traffic, it can be a pain at times, even after having the car for four years. Personally, just my taste, if I were driving that much, I'd find something that I can just get in and cruise in without the worries and hassles. Reason being, just being a sports car, it takes a bit more attention to drive than say, a Ford F150 truck. That can be tiring in itself.

I would have to say no.
Back in May, in the process of buying a daily driver, I had to drive the S2000 to work for a week....and I drive 112 miles everyday. Not a very comfortable week of driving. Very little room for things, coffee spilled everywhere due to the rough ride, poptarts went everywhere, 22mpg wasnt cutting it, and I was worried about parking it at work. I couldnt use the cruise in the rain, the backend would tend to step out at times.
IMO, driving this car 112 miles everyday would not be very comfy.

I have a 97 M3 and an 05 S2000. The M3 has been my daily driver for years and will continue to be. The S2000 is for fun.. If I were you i'd do the same thing... S2000=fun, sedan=daily driver IMHO

alright well i think the general consesis is that it wouldnt be comfortable to drive that many miles a day in. i think i might go with my second choice which is an 01' 328i coupe, prolly gonna be a lil more comfortable!

The s2k is one of the crapiest commute cars out there. If thats your main concern you'll be miserable everyday. here's why:
the cockpit is confined and there's hardly any room for movement. this is mainly due to the X-bone chassy that requires a massive center tunnel.
steering wheel up/down and for/aft is NOT adjustable.
ride is bone jaring
sound system sucks (15 watt speakers)
shifter is directly linked to the tranny therefor it annoyingly vibrates
sound insulation is minimal and gear noise from diff and gear box penetrates through the cabin as well as heat from the exhaust piping.
It's a highly biased performance car you can't have everything

I've had my S for 7 months now and commute 60 miles a day for 5 or 6 days out of the week. I don't have any problems because I'm not trying to do twenty different things while I'm driving. I have my morning Coke and I just drive. The seats are more comfortable then any Accord I've been in. Because I drive it so much, I just inspect it and check the fluids more often(especially the oil). I think your being comfortable relies on your body size. The bigger you are, the less comfortable you will be in this car.
Partly why I'm so comfortable in this car may be because the car I had prior was a gutted out eg. Compared to that car my S is straight luxury.

Your hand shouldn't be on the shifter unless you are actually shifting.
On another note, I drive the car about 60 miles a day for my commute and I love it. It's all about personal preference. If you like the rougher than most (not really "bone jaring" in stock trim) ride, a perfect gear box, and an overall amazing car, then I would suggest it. But if you are looking stictly for a commuter car then I suggest you find a WRX or something of that nature. Quick and fun, yet not as "intense" as an S2000.

I have no problem driving my S daily, 35 miles each way. Sometimes more if I run errands. Its prob partially due to me coming from an ITR where the ride is even worse. Its all personal preference
From my experience, i dont think its a good communting car. i have two cars the s2 and the delsol. i used to own a 93 hatchback. i really miss the convience of having more space. the s2 seems so compact at times. i have driven my s2 one week and the delsol the next. i would say i like driving the delsol on long drives and the s2 on shorter ones. i have driven the s2 140miles in one day many times and it gets uncomfortable for me that is. sometimes i feel clostrafobic. dont get me wrong its a great car, but racking up miles on long communtes
I drive 8 miles to school 8 miles back then 20 miles to work then 20 miles back.
This car pisses me off to no end. Raddles, not rain friendly, low on torque, hardly enough room to have sex, tranny noise and rear end noises are annoying, hard to get in and out of, steer wheel doesn't adjust, and i'm sorry I may trade this car off or try to sell it. Go back to my 92 civic .

well i think the overall thing is that im not really going to be doing anything but driving and listening to music. i dont really need to do anything but just drive it to school and back. im not a huge guy, im only 5'10" so i dont think im gonna be too big for the car or the seats. i also think coming from my civic that was crazy stiff and really made to be a track car, the stock ride of a s2000 will be almost like luxury to me. keep the comments and suggestions coming!!!

uhm ok....
some shifters do come with cable actuated shift links to isolate heat and vibration. For those who don't follow your habitual ritual might appreciate that.
hondaej8,
since you mentioned listening to music as one of your interest, i thought you might like to know that the speakers on the S2k are placed so that your left leg obstructs and muffles the sound. The same goes to the right speaker if you have a passenger.

Look up info on the proper driving and racing hand placement. Two hands on the wheel and the only time your hand is on the shifter is during shifting. Obviously it is much more in depth than that, but you get the point.

50+ miles a day here. I'm also riding on Tein RA's so it's a bit stiffer and lower (damn road debris).
Mainly freeway miles and I honestly have no complaints whatsever. All I ever carry with me is my backpack and a cd case. If i need to lug stuff around, I just borrow my uncles surburban anyway.

I think the opinions vary based on the size of the driver. I am 6'1", 215lbs. and I do not commute in mine. But, my girlfriend is 5'3" and petite and she uses hers as a daily driver.
