you've came to the right place. I've used both 9k5 and 9k6 silverstarZZZ bulbs. I did the 9k5 conversion to my low beams and they lasted for no more then 9 months. I, then plugged in some 9k6's ( stock size) to my socket and to my human eye, i see NO difference in visibilty and light output. There you have it, My advice would be stick with the 9k6 because it'll last a lot longer.

you mean u noticed a difference when u switched out the 9k6 (stock bulbs) for the 9k5 silverstars or 9k6 silverstars to 9k5 silverstars?

yea i also feel that the 9005 conversion was pretty noticable. Its sucks to hear many say that the bulbs dont last too long... maybe after, its better to get HID? If you think about it, its ~$40-50 for the pair of silverstars... replace them a few times, the you're already in the HID range. This is especially the case when you use the more expensive bulbs (ie. piaa, raybrig)

not to be a dick bro.... but if you cant notice the diff between the 9005 and 9006, then get your eyes ckd. There's a noticable diff between the two. The 9005 bulb obviously wasn't designed to burn continuously the way it does in the 9005 conversion...hence why they burn out so quickly. Bulb life for the silver stars is generally around 320 hours or so. The light output of the 9005 vs. the 9006 is dramatically diff in light lumens.

9005=1700 lumens
9006=1000 lumens

the 9006 def will last longer for sure, but light output is not even close. your eye prob was noticing the color diff to be very slight, but still imo the 9006 looks more yellowish than the more white beam of the 9005 silverstar

thats ridiculous that the bulbs only last for 320 hours... kinda shitty for 50 bucks..... anyways, im new to this conversion.. can anyone give me an idea to how this happens? what is the basic process?

you just take two bulbs, compare, the 9005 have 2 lines , the 9006 has 1 line, from keeping them not to fit each other, and u cut one of the brackets on the edge in half, stick it in and you're ready..i bought my bulbs for 25 dollars online a pair, works good..didn't want to pay more for the silverstars

here you go:

I agree for $20/per bulb and it only lasts 8mo-1yr, it seems kinda silly to do, but you'll be happy with the results. The light output is pure white and luminates the road well. you'll notice the light pattern goes further down the road and catches road signs from a further distance then any stock 9006 bulb. If you don't want to spend the $$ on silverstars, ck out the sylvania cool blues... $20/pair..if that. good value, not quite as white as silverstars but still put out great light increases over stock 9006 halogens. IMO 9005 is the next best thing to HID.

Wow, those 9012 bulbs sound good? Anybody have any experience with them? I mean these are legit quality bulbs right? I might pick some of those up and give them a try. What i am wondering is how come nobody ever talks about/has those bulbs? Are they new or just kinda obscure?

I think they are fairly new and aren't really readily available yet. I think you can find info on them on the General Lighting FAQ (do a web search for that site).

i feel you on that bro... i was wondering the same thing...anytime you hear about headlight upgrade other than HID is the 9005 silverstars that burn out too ******* quickly cuz their bulb life sucks ***!!! i myself am trying to find another upgrade that will last...im gonna give those 9012's a try too. I do wonder tho, if there is any mod or fabrication that needs to be done somewhat like the 9005 conversion or if its a direct plug in.... if you find out..then reply to me..thanks

It appears that 9012 is a direct replacement for 9006.

9012 9011

12volts=1355 1840
12.8volts=1700 2300
13.2volts=1875 2500

On the up side for 9012 @14v=1000hrs of life.....now that is good news!!!!
