RM vs. skunk2 valve springs & retainers
Well, i'm having a hard time deciding which dual valve springs and retainers set to buy. I've heard good things about both of these companies, but which one has the better product. Oh yeah, and as far as the RM go which ones are better the GEN1 or the GEN2.
I would go with the RM valvetrain because i never heard anything going wrong with them. as of skunks valvetrain it's good but i wouldn't use them heard some bad things about them be it's up to you
Rocket Motorsports > SKunk2 ANYDAY imo. rocket motorsports are in my engine an i spin to 9500+ everyday, mishifted even higher than 11000 before without ANY PRoblems an never dropped a valve. RM
While I may be partial to RM I say get an idea of what cams you are going to use first. IF you use Skunk cams then I would go with their springs/retainers for warranty purposes. Any other brand cams I would go the RM rout unless you decide on that other companies springs/retainers. I am pretty sure Rocket would do his best to help you if something goes wrong while using different cams but it's hard to say what the cam company will do for you if you are not using their springs/retainers.
I think its amazing how very few people talk about Portflow valvesprings, but as far as this question goes, it depends on what cams your using, if you use Skunk2 cams use Skunk2 springs, Crower cams use Crower springs etc etc etc, but yeah, what about Portflow, I think Portflow has some good stuff.

i cant belive the information in this thread. READ AN RESEARCH, ive run RM on skunk2 cams, i have several local customers running them on everything from TODAS to Jun3s. NO PROBLEMS, you can mix an match, look at seat pressure an other factors.

Of course you can mix -n- match but if you have shitty luck like a lot of people on here seem to have and you have a defective cam for instance then the cam company may not be willing to take care of you as a customer if you are using another manufactures springs.

Sometimes you get a fucked up cyl. head that has a restriction to the oil supply to the cam rails and your cams go bad regardless of the springs.
I reccommend lighter seat pressures for the Taiwanese cams. With the cams coming from RM or Crower you can run more seat pressure perfectly fine.

true, skunk2 have failures in valvetrain... alot of people have complained? I dont have them but i would reccomend portflow, since they have been a great outcome in our motor setup.

omni / rocket / portflow < only companies i would trust in my head besides OEM.
my favorite: portflow retainers / type r outers / portflow inners
^ many of the OG builders on this board have run that setup for the longest. i dont think any valvetrain has been more proven then the portflow/type r combo.

The Rocket Gen 2's have a lighter seat preasure, so I would go with those for a type r cam. If you were doing something bigger like a m22 or S2S2 or bigger then I would do the RM gen 1's.
