Default brands of hi flo cats

Are certain brands of hi flo cats actually better than other brands? Like, do some flow better than others, or are some more effective on emissions than others? What's a good, cheap brand? I guess the reason I ask is simply that when most people talk about their mods, they always make a point of mentioning *which* brand exhaust they have, or *which* header, but those same people more often than not just say they have a hi flo cat.
