Would you buy this civic or not?
A coworker of mine is looking to buy a 98 civic ex with 86000 on it. What type of issues should she expect, if any from this civic?
Also there is probably a thread on this so I will search if she buys but is the "remote entry" run through the stock radio?
Thanks

Unfotunatley, yes it does. Why? I have no clue. It was a crapy design too.
That is really cheap for a 98. My 96 set me back a little over $6,000 in January. In a recent auto trader I saw a majority going for about $5,000-$5,500. Pisses me off too.

obviously check all the regular crap. oil spots. rust (rear 1/4, FRAME, door jams, etc). open up the radiator cap and check for any oil. i'd get a jack in the front middle and lift the two front wheels, and check to make sure the camber of the tires doesnt have any play (tie rods). check the oil to see if its been changed recently(color) and make sure its up to the correct lines. i'd take it to a parking lot and make a circle, roll windows down to hear for any clicking. do a bounce test to the suspension. check all gears. check interior for cigarette holes, ashes, rips/tears. check sun roof, wipers, radio, all buttons. air filter.

I read it to say her friend buying from sister in law....meaning a family connection...sounds like a good deal to me. Have her get a buyers check at a service/repair shop (for fluid leaks, compression etc) often only about $75.00 money well spent. With a clean bill-of-health $4k is a great deal !

Have it checked out. At the end, no matter what any of us say, it will come down to whether you want it or not.
There was another user on here who, about 99% of us, told to stay clear of a Salvaged Civic he wanted. Needless to say, he paid $2,000 too much.

Really no difference than purchasing any other make of car or truck. Pay if necessary to have it checked out.
