New to the world of Honda, how can I get more performance out of a D15B2 engine?
I recently acquired an 89 Civic (Sedan), I would like to know how to gain some more power. The engine is stock, has never been modified. By the way this is my first time tuning a car like this and the such and I want to do it the right way. What should I buy or change? Thanks in advance.
what these guys are not telling you is don't bother
save the money your going to spend on the bolt ons
and just buy upgrade(d1.6 b16 b18) something thats going
to give you what your looking for POWER

You're in Puerto Rico?
Not sure what's available to you out there
You can wake up the engine with a MPFI conversion, CAM and opening up and tuning INTAKE and EXH flow
but if you're working on a BEAT engine, save your money for a swap.

ya I agree to him... I wasted a lot of money making my d15b2 look pretty and all but I might be up to stock horsepower now of 92.... lol ya I would recommend saving up for a B16A1 swap.... 160 hp right there...

Here is some PR love, normally I do not have much love for newbs
For more power with the stock motor, and to open the pathway for everything else:
1) MPFI Swap
For better acceleration --> Switch over to the 89-91 Si Transmission
For more power with the stock bottom end:
1) SOHC VTEC Mini-Me
2) Turbo's on the cheap
Ok, so you want to ditch your motor all together...
1) What's the best engine for my Honda
Various Info on the D15B2....
1) Without MPFI other mods are relatively useless as the stock intake system flows like **** and is horribly restrictive. Clear that out of the way and you have room to work with.
2) The head is the exact same casting as the D16A6 (Si 4th Generation Motor) and the only difference is the cam.
2a) Any cam ment for a D16A6 can be used in the motor granted that the valvetrain can support it.
3) When using cams or heads that originate from a 1.6L block you are highly advised to have an adjustable cam gear to help with timing.
4) The D15B2 has a better rod-stroke ratio then the D16 motors.
More later....

Saying sh*t like that gives us the bad reputation; if poeple would just stop referencing the "Class of 04" then eventually it will pass the way of the ricer mods --> out of these forums.

Go away n00b.
Go away n00b.
Really, thanks to you all for the help and information provided, now I will try to find a D16A6 engine to make the swap... I really wished to modify the stock engine. But it sounds like quite a bit of money to me. Have any of you installed a TO2 to a D16A6? I have a turbo from an Eclipse and wanted to know if it is worth the work to get it installed, or if my D15B" won´t break up by installing a turbo? Thanks, people.

you probably could run the turbo okay but I wouldn't recommend more than 7 lbs of boost max. depending on how new the d16a6 is, or if its recently rebuilt it would be okay still. have fun!
