Default Should I do it or let the mech?

Ok heres the situation. I have a freshly built Y8 block, "new" A6 Si tranny, and new clutch kit. I have to pull out my mini-me and use the head off of that on this block as well as the manis and flywheel (and a few other small parts). Well I know a mech that will do it for $200, but it will take him two more weeks before he can even start on it. I also have to put a new pass side axle in because my CV joint is screwed.

On the other hand I know I can rent a cherry picker for $20 a day. Should I attempt to do it myself and if I get stuck just let him do it or say screw it and just let him do it? I have done minor work on my engine, but nothing major. ex: new radiator, new thermostat, about 3 new dizzys, external coil, cam gear.

Out of the people who have done a d series swap how long did it take you?

if you've never done it before try and find someone who has and do it with them

a knowledgable person can do a d swap in 5 hours or less, but you're adding things with the Y8 block to it'll take longer. everyone here will say do it yourself, and I would agree, but if you have no help then you may want to let the mech do it

I have a friend to help, but he has only done minor things as well (head replacement was the hardest thing he did)

if the head is completly assembled i say give her, just have a service manual handy for all torque specs, and make sure u have no left over parts when your done, my first engine build, i saw it as puzzle, comes out one way, as to go back in the exact same, but u didnt take it apart may make it tougher, best way to learn is do yourself, 2 weeks man, u can have that done 6-8 hrs if you take your time, just check and double check, do it with a buddy, smoke a few phatty's and have fun man, kiddin, good luck

See I want to do it my self for the learning, but I really can't afford to screw it up. For the $200 for swap and $50 for towing I could buy a good cam. The fun part is when the turbo goes on. 10.5:1 c/r and 8lbs yum yum
