wierd noise coming from tranny
Ok last month i installed my dc sports ceramic shorty header. and from the day in installed it at 3800 rpm on the nose it makes a zing noise depending on how fast the rpms are climbing when i shift as the rpm's drop when it hits the 3800 rpm mark it makes the same noise. if its not in gear it does not make the noise. ive also noticed that it only does it upon warm up.
any idea. and why all the sudden now with the new header. i did break off the bolt that holds the header to the block under neath so i didnt bolt that back up. its almost like a resonating zing type noise. not a notchy grind but im kinda worried cuz it wont go away and if im traveling and hold i at 3800 rpm it will make the noise constant til the rpms climb or go lower.
any imput

does it make that noise when your decelerating from those rpms? My car started to make a metalic buzz/zing whine noise anytime I was around 3500rpms. After having my car at the dealership a couple of times, and when my clutch began acting weird my dealer suggested replacing it.
Might just be a resonance in the new exhaust....that RPM area seems to be a normal area for many Hondas. When you open the exhaust up, you get to hear that stuff alot more louder.
When I got my Civic, it didn't have a catalytic converter on it, and it got this horrible resonance right at 3000 RPM, no matter what the engine load. I put a cat on there and it tamed it considerably. My Integra picked up some resonance around 3200-3500 RPM under moderate engine load after I replaced the stock muffler with a higher flowing one.

yes as i go up thur the rpms at 3800 it makes the qucik zing depending on how fast im accelerating. then when i shift if the rpms fall back down and pass the 3800 mark it make sthe quick noise again.
if i accelerate and hold it at a constant 3800 rpm it will hold that zing. i can imagine it may sound the same from the other poster on here.
it never made it before until i added this header

you've probably already done this but check and see if you need to readjust your header. I've had my race header on for a year now, and didn't notice that noise until my clutch went bad. Everytime I'd go up to 3500-3800 I get this whine zing noise either accelerating or delerating from those points and even holding it at that rpm. Really annoying too.
if it sounds like metal on metal vibrating then the bracket you left unbolted (bolt you broke) is probably allowing enough movement in the header for the bracket to rub the block. there's a reason it's supposed to be bolted there. crawl under the car and take a look. if it's rubbing you'll see scuff marks.
also, the heat shield on the cat could be loose. this happens on every kind of car. my 87 ranger (best $350 anyone could ever spend) is making that noise now. i think it gives the beater character.
