6gen accord 4cyl AT solenoidHelp
1998 auto tran 2.3L 4cyl
Having problems:
1. Brake light on all the time
2. Transmission does not shift properly.
3. Sometimes, the transmission would not shift into reverse after driving for twenty minutes.
4. Told that the solenoids have gone bad.
Did some reserach and found that the tranny have the following four solenoids:
A. 1998 Honda Accord 2.3 LX 4dr AT Solenoid Linear solenoid, right
B. 1998 Honda Accord 2.3 LX 4dr AT Solenoid Lock-up solenoid, upper left
C. 1998 Honda Accord 2.3 LX 4dr AT Solenoid Solenoid A, center left
D. 1998 Honda Accord 2.3 LX 4dr AT Solenoid Solenoid B, lower left
Looking for some assistance in what each one does and how to go change them ?? pics would be very helpful
Thanks in advance

Do you get a check-engine light? Does the D4 light in the cluster blink? Either one of these would indicate trouble; you can go to AutoXone & have them read the error code #.
But maybe(?) the powertrain controller sees the brakelights energized all the time, & thinks you're driving around with your foot on the brakes. It probably uses a different shifting strategy because of this.

1. Will fix the brake light swith. Is it relative simple to do? Can i just buy it from the dealer.
2. There is CEL . Will go to local parts store and see if they will read it for me.
3. No D4 light in the cluster blinking
4. But maybe(?) the powertrain controller sees the brakelights energized all the time, & thinks you're driving around with your foot on the brakes. It probably uses a different shifting strategy because of this....
More likely. Ned help with fixing the brake light. Cannot get it to go off.

Mine hasn't screwed up, so I'm not really talking from experience...
Looks like #3 near the middle of the picture is the switch, you gotta reach up & check it out. Maybe you have to remove some plastic shrouds from under the dash? Maybe it's bracket is bent? Maybe the switch itself is busted?
Ignore the clutch pedal #16; I guess the drawing does double duty for auto & manual tranny cars.
ps... Get the parts store to tell you the actual error code #. Sometimes they get kinda creative with their description of how to fix it...
Well it was not the brake switch but the brake fluid was low. Added brake fluid and the light went away, however, the handling got better. Only I should have paid attention to itbefore. However, the tranny shifting is still problematic. Shifts really ok into first but then just does not want to shift to second, and even if it does, shifts right back into first in nanoseconds. The CEL light is on. Paper clip jumer metho provided the following results:
Well I read the code by way of jumper.
Here are the results:
1. All the time teh "D4" is flashing
2. First i read "7" long flashes
3. After the first long seven flashes, the light goes away for few seconds then Iread the following flashes
a. Long flashes = 7
b. Short flashes = 4 ( or could be five, they go by very quickly)
So, can anyone tell me what's going on.
Thanks
