May Buy a 05 GSXR 600 this weekend, NEED ADVICE...
I am contemplating buying a new Yellow 05' GSXR600 this weekend.
i have a good relationship with the dealer since I bought a snowblower from them once and since I almost worked for them once as well.
My question is the MSRP on the bike is $8199, and they told me that sicne its off season, they will sell the bike for me for $8199 OTD, ya know OTD. Is that a good deal?
My salesman, who sold me my Honda VTEC snowblower told me that if I bought the bike in the spring of 05 that there wouldnt be any price breaks.
Second, as far as insurance goes in nYC, can I only insure the bike only during riding season???
How many questions is the learner permit test in NYC???
Sorry for the questions, but I am serious about getting this bike of $8199 OTD is a good deal..

Prices are higher in NYC, but I'm pretty sure you can have them throw in a helmet in that price OTD. Prices will be higher in spring, mark up.
I don't remeber how many questions were on the test but it's easy. After you get your permit, you should take up an MSF course. It will help you become a better rider and also help reduce your insurance rates. You can take one up at QCC or http://www.tramas.com/basic.html
Be safe it's a Jungle out there

You had to take a test for your permit? I just went in and got one, No tests nor Questions. If you dont have a permit am I assuming you never rode before? If so , that is not the bike to start on
I dont think they just hand out permits to riders.....I'm 99.9% sure you gotta take some kind of test.....I did....It was about 35 questions....20 motorcycle questions and 10 vehicle questions I believe...It was easy and you shouldnt stress the test....
Take the MSF!
As far as starting off on a GSXR600.....I did and I'm doing fine....All depends on the rider.....

They do in PA thats for sure. I never even sat on a street bike before and I walked in and paid my $20 i think it was for a permit and was on my way. I started riding a little in parking lots and then moved on as I felt comfy. Then I went and took the MSF course to get a better basis of maneuvering and got my licence then and there at the end of the course.

I see....Well then I was wrong....I guess they do just hand out permits...in PA.....That's kind've a scary thought though dont you think?
I took my MSF class and there are just some people who shouldnt ride...First excercise was to walk the bike across the track while sitting on it....One guy goes down by breaking too hard when coming to a stop....then drops its again when the U-Turn part comes up.....Luckily our instructors were cool and didnt fail his ***....They should've though!

Not really. If you have a driver's license you should know all the traffic ****. That is pretty much all I can think that would be on a permit test.
The whole point of a permit is to allow you to learn to ride. Just because you can pass a written test on how far to signal and what part of the lane to be in , doesnt make you any less Scary then a person who didnt take that stupid test for a permit.

I pasi like 35 when i got my permit. this way i could walk out and start riding. If not I would have paid the 20 and waited a week or so until the DMV sends me a permit.
The actual test is questions and riding. I still haven't taken that yet.

True for some people I guess.....
But riding a motorcycle and driving a car is totally different...So just cuz because you have a drivers license doesnt mean you know all the traffic ****..Different rules to follow....

Maybe it's because I live in Los Angeles and you dont, but knowing some of the rules of the road in a motorcycle help me out everyday.....Especially what part of the lane to be in when coming into an intersection....stuff like that.....
but you know what...It's up to you....Get a permit or not.....Just take it easy on the streets for the first couple of months or even weeks and you'll be fine...on any bike...Most accidents are caused from other drivers and misuse of the bike....Not the bike itself....

in the MSF course though you can get your license right from them if you pass. Josh, that is the easiest way. DMV is too much of a PITA. You screw up once and your done. In the course they have seen you ride for 2 weeks, If you screw something little up on the test and you have done it plenty of times before, they know you can do it and are a little more lenient.
Bad first bike. What are you gonna do when you scratch up your nice brand new fairing because you had to itch your ***** at the stop light. Ive seen it happen before. Becareful

if you scratch up the plastics, don't call the insurance company. You will screw yourself in the long run if you have them replace your junk every time your bike hits the ground. Not saying that it is gonna happen, just that it probably will.
Have you checked your insurance rates on the bike for full coverage yet? Insurance can suck the fun right out of sportbiking for some.
This is a really expensive hobby, don't just jump into it blindly.

As stated before, bad first bike. If anything, be very mature about riding.
That price out the door is what is paid during riding season by riders who know how to buy. Best price out the door would be their cost plus a couple hundred.

yeah full covergage in NYC is like $6500/yr, just like buying a new bike every year.
Liability is like $650/yr.
Feel free to call me stupid and crazy and I'll understand and reconsider my decisions, but I was planning on just getting liability on the bike.
Why?? my buddies who ride all have new bikes R6's, ZX6R's and just have liability on them. Full covergae would just kill us and take the fun out of riding.

Nothing wrong with Liability as long as you accept the consequesnces. Unless you put it on a credit card or pay cash , dont plan on walking out with liability though
the price is the price. If its MSRP, then plan on paying that or close to it, unless you know how to really work them down.
