Default H22 Cam question!

I have a 98 Prelude w/ an H22 and I am looking to do a mild build! I am looking for info on cams and want your input! I am not going extreme b/c this is my daily driver! So far I am debating between:

-Type S cams
-Crower stage 1
-Skunk2 stage 1

Any input, suggestions, or advice is appreciated! Thanx!

Do you need to upgrade the valvetrain?

you don't have to change the valvetrain if the cams do not exceed the stock lift. If it doesn't exceed the stock lift, it is not doing anything that would challenge the valvetrain. For example, Cat Cams for the H22, 2501703, have a lift of 11.7mm intake and 10.6mm exhaust. And they have vtec duration of 283 intake, 268 exhaust. These cams will net you 20+ hp over the whole powerband and they drop right in, requiring no changes to the valvetrain.

whats a cat cam?? never heard of em

but yes i would ALWAYS replace the valve springs/retainers.. they are cheap and its not worth risking your motor.

i mean, yeah you should be fine to the stock rev limit, but what happens if you setup wants to make power past that? then you gota tear it all down and replace stuff.. then what happens when you miss a gear and over rev the motor? you now have 8 bent exhaust valves.

hell when we put the type s cams in we were making power to 7900 rpms... instantly bent all the exh valves when it was on stock valve train... went to rocket valve train and havent had any problems yet.

I just put these i my girfriends car, it is a completely different drive now. This isn't her dyno, she hasn't had the time to put some numbers down. But yeah, http://www.catcams.be . They are huge with VW, Audi, BMW and other european makes. AC Schnitzer rebadges cat cams and sells them as their own.

i know u like ur crower cams for ur B18B motor, but i wouldnt get any crower cams for the H22. i think u need to modify something in the head (forgot what it was) and if u dont, then the cams gonna eat ur head up. a friend of mine installed some crower cams for the h22 motor and after start up, the whole head was screwed up.

damn bro, how many cars u have? u got B18B powered car, H22 and another B series VTEC motor. u must be bling bling n! lol

how often is it that something like this happens with Skunk2's? Every cam company has had it flaws but I have only seen it on B-series cams!

It seems to be alarmingly common with all the Taiwanese made cams.
