This may or may not help you, but according to H-T user adirondackR: "The RSX gauge cluster operates off of a digital communication line that sends & receives multiple signals through a single line. This line runs from/to the cluster to/from the ECU which interfaces at a (RSX-S) multiplexor (which is built into the RSX under-the-dash fusebox)"

So, you have to find out if a 2001 civic gauge cluster operates the same way as stated above, and if so, I would imagine that you could make this work with some wiring skills, or who knows, it may be a plug and play affair similar to installing different gauge clusters between 96-00 civics. If however, the 2001 civic works like the old style 96-00 civic (or any pre 2001 civic for that matter) clusters without the multiplexor, the RSX gauge cluster will never work (unless of course you're doing what adirondackR's doing and swap in a K series motor and wiring harnesses into a multiplexorless car)

Good luck, if you attempt to do it, keep us posted. Maybe someone with more knowledge on the subject can chime in
