How do you paint an engine bay?
I have wondered for a while now. 'How do you paint an engine bay?' Do you remove the whole engine? Do you just cover everything in plastic and spray around it? I mean my engine bay is dirty from everyday useage, so what do they clean it with?
Thanks

I am painting brackets and clamps and swapping out corroded bolts as I go. Just take them out, wire brush with a drill or dremel, prime and paint. But I have not actually tackeled the engine bay itself yet. I imagine you would want to strip it down,,, remove as much as possible then clean and spray.
if you were to do it right then you would pull it all out. i mean ALL OUT. and then prep and paint. most shops won't do this though unless you are willing to pay extra. most shops will just paint the inner side of the fenders and radiator support.
My friend repainted his car a diff. color and he removed almost everything from the engine bay. And what he couldn't he taped off. For it to look good take off as much as you can, or can handle.
You can leave the engine in. You simply, well not really simple, remove everything from the firewall and fenders. Most of the stuff you can unbolt, and then just lay on top of the engine and mask everything off. Prepping is a BITCH though.
