Default Z6/Y8 Distributor Questions OBD1 OBD2 Timing

Right now i'm running an obd1 d16z6 distributor on a d16y8 converted to obd1...

The obd1 distributor is NOT NOTCHED.

Question...i know the z6 dist i am running will hinder my ability to compensate timing but in which direction? Why?

"Stock" timing for a z6 is ~16btdc
"Stock" timing for a y8 is ~12btdc

So wouldn't the z6 distributor on a y8 head give more advance? Last time i messed with timing i max'd out the advance with obd1 z6 dist and only got 16btdc.

Who knows their stuff and understands what i'm saying.

Thanks dudes,

Vince

just try to turn the distributor towards the firewall and watch for detonation at the same time , only help i can think of >_< . or you can get a timing gun

i've got one and know when i would detonate...i just want to understand the differences as to why the z6 dist is different from the y8 and how exactly it affects the timing process.

i have aligned em up both a and mesured them up both, and if i remeber correctly they were the same timming wise.

i had to open up the hole on the y8 to make it fit on my z6 (just like when using a obd0 dist), so it made a difference in my situation.

but before i opend it up, it was identical.

dont know if it helps, but its what i have seen.

which hole did you notch out?

How are the mounting points different from obd1 to obd2/obd0?

i notched out the very top hole, its the only one that "semi" aligns up.

all NON-vtec d series motors have the SAME distro hole pattern. And the NON vtec'rs share the same pattern ONLY with the Y8. The z6 and VX and jdm d15b's are the only odd ***** that have the diff bilt pattern.

so if i was in ur situation, i would go and get a 92-95 DX distro. all bolts will line up and it will work correctly.

this is what i was running on my boosted y8 in my CRX after i converted to obd1.
