stupid question about Race car

A car has no use for its VIN if it is not registered to drive on public roads.
If the car must remain street-legal, then it will still need a VIN.

eerrr im assuming English isn't your native language.
VIN numbers are for the DMV and street cars, if its a race car, its not on the street, then it doesn't need the VIN

I removed the VIN from my race kaa to save weight.

Unlikely. Not many places to race a WRX.

Not necessarily true. Some racing classes require you to have built, say, a WRX race car from an actual WRX shell...and not a regular Impreza shell. Short of being able to point to the VIN, I'm not sure how you could prove, irrefutabely, that your car was a WRX and not an Impreza. Improved Touring is this way I know, others might be.
Now I've *never* heard of a protest on these grounds, but the possibilty exists, no matter how remote.

There is no possible way to rid a car of all vins unless you really meant it. I mean whats the point of hacking the firewall even for a race car.
Your WRX most likely was squared and dumped in a lake.
And yes even race cars do need a decernable method for ownership unless you tow it everywhere in a invisible trailer.
I've seen cops search both mine and my friends cars during weigh station, border crossing or random check points for vins ect.

Some cars come from the factory with no VIN example ford mustang BW.
now that its alittler more clear i understand that he thought his stolen WRX might be made into a race car at first i didn't know what he was asking

Big mistake Scott. That VIN # contains vital information used to drive the chirp controller. I suggest you replace it pronto, preferably with a JDM VIN #.

Well, if it came from the factory with a VIN, then it still needs to be on there, race car or not. Check your state laws... I happen to know that in my state (Colorado) it is a felony to remove/deface/alter VINs or to even possess a vehicle with such VINs; the status of it's registration or where it is driven is completely irrelevant, as this has to do with theft more than anything else. I've been informally told by an officer that this really mostly applies to the VIN plates, rather than those VIN stickers newer Hondas have everywhere.
Other states will have similar laws. There's no real reason to mess with the VINs on a race car anyway.

I am assuming you don't know there are lands beyond the border of the United Sates. These lands are inhabited by peoples who don't necessarily speak English. They have access to the Internet there as well. Sometimes these people find there way to the US and live among us. Hard to belive I know, but it is true.
Now for the VIN. All but very few race cars have VINs for proof of ownership and as a way to verify legality and eligibility for classes. Even sports racers have VINs.

Yikes! I didn't know.
Lucky thing I didn't dump my shop garbage can.
I'll put it back on, but I'm going to relocate it to help with the weight distribution. And no way on the JDM VIN - those dyno curves are nothing special.
Scott, who's attention to detail is exceeded only by the marketing claims for the products he buys for his kaa...

The BMW bodys-in-white have no VINs either. When PTG builds racecars from them they get PTG VINs. I assume there is some process you go through to become registered to create a VIN.
This must be a more-or-less worldwide thing because the Alpinas (which are built from BMW bodys-in-white in DE) have Alpina VINs too.

And I assume Factory Five and other kit-car shops have some method to create VINs for their vehicles.

first - factory five cars are built from donor mustangs - I believe they typically inherit the VIN of the donor car.
second - it is possible to aply for a VIN for an "assembled car" as long as no one vehicle makes up more than 50% of the new car.

They use a Mustang drivetrain, but the chassis and bodywork is all Factory Five.
These are the donor parts:
1. Engine and transmission assemblies.
2. Driveshaft.
3. Ford 8.8” rear end assembly w/quadshocks, springs and control arms.
4. Mustang front and rear brake assemblies, w/master cylinder, emergency brake handle and pedal box.
5. Mustang front wheel spindles and lower control arm.
6. Mustang radiator and cooling fan shroud.
7. Ford fuel tank, cap, and fuel filter.
8. Mustang steering rack (w/factory ignition for 87-95 cars).
9. Mustang gauge cluster, computer and wire harness for EFI cars.
10. Mustang aluminum wheels (or use aftermarket/vintage wheels).
Unless you were to cut the VIN off the donor's dash and firewall, I'm not sure how these donor parts would identify the car. And if it inherited the Mustang VIN, wouldn't it have to be registered as a Mustang (and not a 65 Roadster)?
