A6 + ARP ??
use Z6 studs... trust me. The Y8 studs are different lengths which is why you have to use them when you do a Y8 Mini-Me. I used the Z6 studs with no problems what so ever in my D16A6 buildup

yeah, bookmark this comment. I would have paypal'd you 20 bux for this comment a year ago. I did the d16a6 with a y8 head & the POS techie @ ARP STATED I should buy the y8 headstuds.
I ended up spending $200 buying 2 sets of headstuds and only using 1.
Needless to say I went to a reputable shop afterward & they hooked me up with some ARP z6 headstuds. The shop also mentioned that it would work for the d16a6 headbolt replacement also.
Thanks ARP
BTW, you wanna GOOD laugh? Ask them what headstud kit you use for a dohc ZC?
I could never get a straight answer on this either.

OK, now I'm confused. onePOINTsix says to go with the Z6 head studs when doing a D16a6 rebuild. Akiraboy says go with the Z6 head studs when doing an D16A6 - Y8 'MiniMe'; the Y8 studs wont work. Whos right? I thought you use Y8 studs on a Y8 head (when building a D16Y8 motor)and Z6 studs on the stock D16A6 rebuild.
D16A6 = Z6 studs
D16Z6 = Z6 studs
D16Y8 = Y8 studs
Right?
Please help - I'm buying a set of ARP head studs tomorrow for my D16-Y8 Mini-Me

The A6 uses the Z6 studs. The Z6 uses the Z6 studs..obviously. If you are mating a Y8 head to an A6 block, you will only need 1 of the Y8 headstuds to completely bolt the head to the block (Seeing you can only buy them in packs, so it costs extra). The only thing you can do is either buy both sets of headstuds for each engine, or get the z6 studs and 1 of the Y8 studs from ARP. Or you could just buy a decent Z6 head and get it PNP'd =P

Wow, what did you use to clean/paint your block? Looks FANTASTIC!

it was hot tanked before it was machined. i put zc pistons in the d16a6 block with a GUDE head. i did paint it with aluminum color engine paint, but it looked no different than the block before i painted it. i just wished they hot tanked my tranny case instead of just degreasing it. eventhough it looks nice, it doesnt look as nice as the engine block or head.

are one of the studs higher than the rest? the rear/passenger side stud? looks like it in the picture and i just put mine in about an hour ago, theyre all perfect except for that one is a hair higher !?!
yes, there is one that is higher. all the studs are the same length, but that rear stud doesnt thread quite as far into the block as the others. if you take the valve cover off, you will wee there is a higher spot on the head where that bolt is in comparison to the others.
