Default Anti-Theft Bugs

I have a 2000 EX Accord 4-cyl. The anti-theft system is flaky. It will lock the car at times that are not of my chosing (ie in the middle of the night IN the locked garage). Then if my cat decides to sleep on the hood, the alarm goes off. Is there a way I can turn the system off and on again at my pleasure?

Also, I have a Cobra Radar detector on the dashboard. When I honk the horn, it goes into re-initialize mode, makes a bunch of noise and then acts normal again. Does the horn emmit some RF that would cause that?

Priker,

Help! I just bought a 1999 Honda Accord EX and it won't start... Apparently the Anti-Theft Device is acting up and preventing voltage from reaching the fuel pump!

Does anyone know how to deal with this? Did you ever find anything that helped yopu solve your problem (I think they may be related...).

I'm useless as far as the alarm is concerned but the radar detector I think I can explain. RDs are sensitive to any kind of electrical interference and the horn is one source, sometimes sending oscillations through the power system. That can mess with the RDs circuitry. It is more common for this to produce something like a laser false but every detector behaves differently. The cheap but time-intensive solution is to try running it on a different circuit via a hard-wire connection to your fuse box. You can find the harness with instructions at Best Buy for ~$10. The more expensive solution is to get a newer detector that doesn't do that.

Or if you don't honk the horn alot you can just live with it. Hopefully it isn't hurting anything.

As for the anti-theft.... called immobilizer system in honda's, the most common cause is trying to use a key that isn't programmed for the car. You need to have it serviced by your Honda dealer. Unfortunatly no one else has access to the Immobilizer system, so you are stuck goiing to the dealer.

true, i installed power folding mirrors and whenever i fold them in it causes my radar detector to go crazy...

im not sure about oem alarms but you may be able to turn down the sensitivity on it so when you cat is on it it wont go off...
