B18C5 runs lean down low and super rich up high. Any ideas?
Like it says, my car runs lean down low below the VTEC cross over point. I know this since the car literally burns oil at an alarming rate above the VTEC line, therefore I havent been going above 5500ish for quite a while. In 3000 miles Ive maybe redlined 3 times.
My plugs were white like it was running lean. Since I have driving down low, I can only assume that its lean down low. Upon stomping the throttle, the smoke is so thick that you need a knife to cut it. Soot all over my back bumper and if its at night, you can see it because of the head lights that are behind you. I dont have any serious mods to the car. Intake header exhaust and an Untuned VAFCII. Im going to the dyno on Sat I hope to get it tuned, but Id like to be able to stomp on my car when I get on the highway and not send money out the tail pipe in the form of burning oil. I havent done a leak down test, but a comp test shows 250 across the board. If I need a serious rebuild wouldnt the car burn at any RPM? Im thinking there may be too much fuel up top and no enough in the bottom. Is this possible to tune with the VAFCII? Anyone have a suggestion or two on how to solve this problem? Could this be an O2 sensor problem maybe?

burning oil has nothing to do with the air fuel ratio, if you are truley burning oil you have a significant problem that lies somewhere else.
most B series hondas do tend to run a hair lean at all times outside of vtec but its a small displacment 4 cylinder so they can get away with it.
what color is the smoke?
is the VAFC 0'd out?

that sounds soo *** backwards.. u want to lean it out in vtec... i would prolly agree with kamin unless the smoke is blueish colored...
have u checked ur fuel pressure????
have u checked ur fuel pressure????
Yes I did check the fuel pressure and it was fine.
Ive only seen the smoke. The people who have smelt and seen it say its definitly oil. I just called one as I type this. Hopefully I will have a leak down test done this week and have a better diagnosis.
