Default 92 Civic HB Ex???

hey one of my friends brother has a 1992 Civic hatchback, and i was wondering if you guys could help me out in identifying it. the model sticker is taken off of the back, but he says its an EX. It does however have a sunroof inside, and ive been told this always means its an EX from the factory. Also i guess it feels like there is Vtec engaging at around 4k on the tach but its really weak so i dont know. Also the car does not have power steering, but he says he might have taken the belt off for more power. oh and its a 5 speed. just wondering cause im interested in buying it.
thanks
matt

that would be nice if it was. hes asking 1800 for it and its got like around 123xxx miles on it. however it has no headliner etc., because it looks like somebody was trying to gut it out. is there anything else on this car that i can look for besides VIN numbers that would identify it from an EX and an SI? thanks guys

Yes.. that's a VERY good price. All it needs is a new headliner? You can get that at a junk yard for like 20 bucs I bet.

well heres the deal. he has an MR2 and his brother has a Z28 camaro. and his clutch is acting up on his MR2 so hes driving this HB that his brother bought for now. his brother bought it originally to swap a B16 or something like that into it. But hes just been using it as a driver while his Z28 sits at home. so i have been riding in it with my friend and its like the headliner is gone and other things back in the hatch. like the panels etc. also its a silver color and hasnt been wrecked.

here is what my 92 si has for options:

power moonroof
rear wiper
power steering
rear disc brakes

that's all that i can think of. didn't come with power windows or locks. and i have the original window sticker for it, so i know pretty much everything about it($14,400 new)

o yea, one other way to tell...look at the engine code. the si/ex both had the D16Z6. and because there never was an ex hatch, if that engine is in it, it's most likely an si. also, redline for the si/ex is 7200 rpm(no tach = no si/ex)

you won't really notice the vtec engaging as much in the sohc engines as the dohc engines because the sohc only changes the lift on the intake valves

ive never seen an si hatch that came from the factory with p/w. im pretty sure it wasnt even an option. they all came with sunroofs, power mirrors, door moldings, rear wiper, and rear disk brakes.

they had power windows, it was pretty much a hatchback version of the ex only with rear disc

check for rear disc brakes

Check the engine block. It will tell you for sure. But it's a damn good price.

Check the VIN. If it starts out "2HGEH3 . . . " then it is an Si. If it starts out "2HGEH2 . . . " then it could be a CX, VX, or DX.

You've never seen a stock Si then.

No '92-95 hatchback (including Si) had power windows from the factory.

Door jambs for the VIN. Its should read something like 2HGEH3.... for an Si HB and 1HGEJ1... for an EX coupe.

as said before, the si does not come with power windows.

if you think about it, the si was the performance model. power windows/locks add weight, so why put them in there. yes, there is a moonroof that adds weight, but that also makes the car more desireable.

i own a real 92 si, and it did not come with power windows/locks, and they are not listed on the window sticker. do not say that every si had power windows without knowing the facts first
