is Heat sheild removal safe?
Ok i have some rattle noises coming from somewhere in the exhaust system. I have recieved a lot o notices that the problem is the cat heat sheild or the headers. I will buy headers and a new hi-flow cat, but is removing the cat heat sheild even safe?
Perfectly fine. Which heatshield are you speaking of removing? In any case, both are fine to remove.
The header shield is there just to reduce underhood temperatures. The catalytic converter one is there just for safety. Say you park over a bunch of dry leaves. You don't want them to catch fire or anything. But it's pretty damn rare that that would happen.
You'll be fine.

Yea I've had my heat shield off and the worst thing that happened to me is I picked up a plastic bag under there. It smelled like burnt plastic for a month.
I don't see why it wouldn't be safe though, it hasn't caused any concerning problems for me.

It keeps your hands away from the pipes. Basicly there to protect you from getting burned. I'm sure its save plenty of people. It won't hurt to remove be sure the car is cold and keep your hands away from the hot pipes

Well....I guess so. But the heatshield itself gets VERY hot. You wouldn't want to touch that either.

i suggest you don't remove it if you live in a area with high grass..etc, you might cause a fire! But if your in the city... go for it!
