Default How to label switches on dash

What techniques/material do you guys use for labeling switches (like on a race car dash.) What I've heard so far is basically using a punch set, painting the plate, then wiping it off. That doesn't seem like it would turn out very well. What do you guys use?

couldn't you just use some of those (place and scratch) letters and numbers?

I have no idea what they are actually called, the ones that work like the fake tattoos you get in the gum ball machines........ I have seem them at like craft stores and model car stores....

Hope that made sense?

If you wanted to get tricky you could get it electroetched, it leaves a black colored etching behind - looks pretty sick on a dash.
