imho, rice is stuff that is obviously unecessary, IE huge stickers, 18" chromes, **** like that, or **** that doesn't fit, like a Type R badge on a 88 corolla. but hey what do i know.
I also consider rice as a verb as well as a adjective. For example, i was taking my mom to Blockbuster last night, and this kid in a saturn (white with a black fake ITR wing) revs on me in the damn blockbuster parking lot. I mean stuff like that is just ridiculous, but oh well.

Oh yeah, if it is a genuine Mugen product, i dont think it can be ricey at all. well except for the valve cover and the oil cap, but those are acceptable at least, right EP?
I've always looked at it like this:
Rice is the illusion of speed
Race is the illusion of rice
*goes to take the Type R sticker off of the Jeep Wrangler*

If you dont get it right, i wont fuse with you to beat janemba, im serious... You damn Saya-jin when you fuse, become so cocky
Rice is the illusion of speed
also, bullshit crappy stuff from pepboys... APC/Rally/etc. Products for looks only, but not high quality, the bargain barely-even-afforded-these-items stuff.

I think it is just stuff done in bad taste - usually this ends up being taking something that could be good just too far (stickers) or to a ridiculous extreme (wings).
hooptie157, hahaha, I'm glad you asked... This is my philosophy:
"Rice" is anything that the MARKET has made as a by-product of the import revolution, i.e. companies that notice there is this "import trend" and try to cash in on it. Some examples include APC, Fast and Furious, Summit Racing (Import division), etc... "Non-rice" is the products and PEOPLE, i.e. teams, racers, reasearch & development, that made the import reovlution possible.
As an analogy, rice is "history makes the man" and non-rice is "man makes history." If you consider yourself driving an "import" or "sport compact," then you are rice. If you drive your car like it is just a car, without any classification, then you are not. On the street, your car has no name, it just gets you from point A to point B. On the strip, your car has no origin, it just has to be fast.
I could go on and on, but i know you guys won't apperciate that... Also read my signature... It is my feelings on the import scene.

thanks d8168055, I know what you mean about the track, cars like old correllas and datzuns are tearing up the strips but are ugy as hell.
My friend said it the best most type R owners are arogent people that think they can take out any import on the road. NOT.
I hope those people get beat by a civic SI with some mods, so their head shrinks. Anyway thanks for the insight.
And if anyone knows the import scence original equipment is the best, made by the manufacturer to their specs, nothing is better

Just because you don't find something to your taste or not useful for you doesn't mean it's rice.
A car that is gutted, has all the performance mod that you can every imagine and sits in the garage is just as ricey.

I also don't understand another thing... On another board (which I very rarely visit now) there was a question about listing RWD imports or something like that. I dared to mention the M3 and some Porsche and everybody was in shock that I considered them "imports". What really got me laughing was a guy trying to convince me that only Japanese cars are imports! I would definitely consider this line of thinking as pure RICE. I wonder if that guy calls C5s in Japan domestic?

There are good and bad things in the world, not everything is subjective or based on personal tastes - that is why we have the Picasso's, Mozarts, and Tolstoy's.
I consider RICE
Untastefull modifications. Tacky, ect. And it is possible to have fast rice, but its still rice, they give all us performance minded people a bad name.

Another thing, my view on rice is a car that is just SLOW but looks like it just got back from its last BTCC race. If you're going to make such a ridiculous looking wanabe racecar, at least have SOME hint of real (not wanabe) speed to back it up with.
Ok, apparently you are looking to find trouble Warren.
Let me break it down for you. You purchase a car, it just so happens to be an Integra Type R. You gut it. You add a roll cage. You have a fully built race motor put in it. Nothing on the car is street legal. But all it does is sit in the garage. Not ever seeing the track. I hope you understood that.
If you are not guilty of what I just described then you shouldn't be offended.
Ok, now back to the Altezza's. You apparently dislike it. I'll keep it simple, THIS WORLD DOES NOT REVOLVE AROUND YOU.
I believe people should do whatever they want to do. This is a Hobby. You are doing it for YOUR entertainment. And if you feel you need to install 34" rims with a 3 foot lift kit on your Civic, by all means, go for it. I will say that I disagree or dislike what you did. But I'm not going to ridicule you. If you feel the need to ridicule people and make yourself feel or look better than others, you need your head checked.
I don't care what others do to their car. I like what I like. I spend my OWN hard EARNED money and invest it in the car. I personally wouldn't want anyone to ridicule me. Please express your disapproval or disagreement, but please don't ridicule. There is a such thing as constructive criticism.
And people, not everyone in this world is going to have the exact preferences as you do. People are different, if everyone liked all the same stuff then there would be no such thing as the term "rice."

Okay try this, I had a mustang owner call me wing ricey, even though its stock. But he had a good arguement. He stated that my car is FWD (duh), Wings or rear spoilers give downforce to the REAR wheels. SO why do you (meaning I) have a rear wing.
Hey that make sense right, so is the stock wing ricey????? (I don't think so)

The wing gives downforce to the rear end, which tends to get really light at high speed. This only matters at speeds above 100mph or so though.
On the subject of rice:
I kinda of agree with ILR - a car that is hooked up with all-Mugen or all-Spoon, obviously the owner is not poor. But if he keeps it as a show car and never races it in any shape or form, that's rice. There are some people on this board with beautiful cars that have the best racing gear money can buy - bucket seats, steering wheel, harnesses, etc. But they never see the track, ever. That is rice to me.
Taking a car that is meant to go fast (Si/GS-R/Prelude/ITR/S2K/M3/M5 etc..) and putting TVs and PS2s and huge systems in it is also rice to me. I have a sub box in my car but it comes out in 2 seconds when it's time to go to the track. Cutting the springs on such a car is rice, 18 or 19 inch rims on such a car is rice. If you want to do this to a car that was not meant to go fast, like an Integra LS/SE or a Civic DX or something, I don't look down upon that as much. I guess what I am trying to say is if you let the go-fast aspect of a car go to waste when it was clearly meant to do so, that is rice to me.

I don't think anything is rice, except for the rice you eat. I call it "different" instead of rice.
When I had my car I often was approached by other car guys. One instance, a guy in a Civic came to talk to me. His car was different. It had custom paint along with a large rear spoiler and 18" wheels. The interior was all custom leathered and painted. At the time, I was a bit into myself and wanted to make fun of this guy. But for some reason, I told myself, hey this is different, accept it as is. So I told the guy, I disliked his car. He ask me why, and I told him. I also told him that if he was happy then that's the important thing. To my surprise he ask me for advice on some things. I told him all I knew and we must have chatted for an hour or two in the Media Play parking lot. A month later I see him again, but he was in a complete makeover.
I'm not saying that you should force someone to agree with you. I honestly told him how I felt and thought about his ride. No need to call him a riceboy or a ricer or whatever. Leave the name calling to 6 year old kids. We're adults now, so act like one.
