Koni vs. Tokico
Hello everybody, I own a 91 Honda accord and I currently have it lowered 3 inches with sport springs (I dont know what brand they are because i bought the car lowered). I'm considering getting new shocks but I can't make my mind up on what to get. I was looking at some Koni Yellows but then a friend of mine recomended some Tokico Illuminas. So this is where I come in to ask you guys which is better. Give me the Pros and Cons about both if you will.
Thanks guys.

Blew within 6 months? Sounds like BS to me.
I've had my Blues for two years now and no problems. I have H&R Sport Springs.

I have a set of Tokico Illuminas and they are the sux0r! The ride is OK, but I had a dampner blow after 3-4 weeks and now another one blow about a year later. But thats just my .02 worth..

I've got the "SP3" Koni's and love them. The SP3 versions are shorter and less prone to bottoming out. Plus they have five height adjustments, not the normal three on other Koni yellows.
Koni SP3's and normal yellows are adjustable (**** that goes on the top), rebuildable, and have a life time warranty.

Maybe because you had your ride too low? I had AGX's and they rode fine... until I lowered it just enough that it bottomed out... It was my fault, and Im not gonna complain. Many times, hardware malfunction can be a product of user error

Hmm, yeah your 100% right.. Even though my car isn't even lowered (about -.1/2')... But a 3l33t user like yourself knows everything, so why do I even voice my personal experiances for this guy to come, make a more educated buying decision and end up with a product he is happy with...

Any signs that you noticed to find out that they were blown? (oil, bouciness, instability, etc)

only go with the koni yellows if you want adjustability. they do make reds, which are better for the wallet cautious. i've had tokico blues on my coupe for more than 5 years and no problems. and i've got illuminas on my hatch and no problem, but i barely drive it.
I have no experience with Tokicos, but my buddy has them in his EK and that car handled well, and they have not blown out yet(two years). I have Koni Yellows in my CRX and love them, I like that you can adjust them however you want instead of preset positions. Also, as stated above, if they ever blow I can send them in and have them rebuilt.
if you have the money, you can't go wrong with Koni. they have been making shocks since before time itself. I have Tokico Illuminas and have been very pleased with them. they are not as stiff or as adjustable as the Koni Yellows, but they fit my budget at the time and I have no complaints after close to 6 months. and I am lowered a bit, not slammed, but I'm actually thinking of raising it slightly. the lower you go, the faster your shocks will wear out.
FYI, I live on a street that has the most speed bumps anywhere on the planet! ok, maybe I'm exaggerating, but every few dozen yards or so, there's a 15mph speed bump that I take at 20mph five days/week at least. drives me bonkers but I can still take corners fast, so they seem to be holding up!

I had tokicos illuminas on my car from when I first bought it in 1997 and they are still on the car with over 100,000 miles
They work great!
you probably went to low on your car, and there is a warning about doing that

It's not hard to blow out a strut in a short period of time if you abuse it. Hit the strut housing against your strut towers a couple of times, or if the strut rod bottoms internally and kiss them goodbye. The Tokicos are more prone to blowing out by design. That doesn't make them bad. I did the stroke correction mod on spring perches, so even though I'm lowered 1.5, to the struts its as if I'm at stock ride height.
