96 dx Hatch
Hey guys,
Ive just bought a 96 Dx hatch, with low milege. I happen to have a 96 Si head in my garage. 1st can the si head be mated onto the dx block, if so what is involved and is it worth the hassle. 2nd what would the general gain be?
Thanks.

I don't think there was an SI civic made in 96. Do you mean 95? If so, then yes, it will mount up to your DX block, but you may run into some wiring problems with the head being OBD1

The only 96 si was a del sol and it had a b16 in it if this is the head he has no it wil not mate up to his D series block......sicoup the y8 did not come in any si trim level ever. It came in the ex civics and thats it.... The lx, dx ,cx came with the y7's hte 99-00si were all b16's.
If you are putting a d16y8 head on a d16y7 engine block, then yes, it is doable, but it's pretty involved. You'll need everything from engine block up + extra wires and ecu.
I'm doing it on my '97 hb, too.
Some of the things you’ll need are:
D16Y8 Head (with all internals)
D16Y8 Intake manifold (throttle body, injectors etc..)
P2P ECU
A few extra wires
And a lot of patients.
Supposedly, an adjustable cam gear is very helpful when tuning this contraption.
Also, although not necessary, might as well get a set of headers, too, if not for performance, then at least for looks
Good luck.

but other then that... IM ALL BEHIND U ON THE SI HEAD MAN!

First of all, there is no way to put a twin cam head (D, B, H, K, what ever) on a single cam (D) engine block. The only D series twin cam engine is the ZC, and its engine block is different from all other D series block, so you can't even bolt that head to a d16y7.
The reason people are doing these head swaps are because of a few reasons.
1. Easier
2. Less time consuming
3. CHEAPER
A full d16y8 engine swap cost a little over $1,000 (
),
a B swap is around $4,000 (
),
and K is still up in the $7,000 range (
),
where as a y8 head swap on a y7 block could be done for under $500 (
). best bang for the buck. Aside from nitrous, you’ll be hard pressed to get 20hp gain for under $500.

The B16 Del Sol's where called the Del Sol VTEC's. The Si Del Sol's had the D16Z6.
