Default B18C1 cheaper than an LS/VTEC?

I had planned on building an LS/VTEC from the ground up for an NA street set-up for my EG. Someone told me the other day that for the cost of a block, new rods and pistons, and the work to put on the VTEC, i would've already spent more than getting a C1. Is this true to say?

LS Block: ~$300
Complete VTEC head: ~$700-800
Oil lines, and misc. items for LSVTEC: ~$200

That's about $1200 for a reliable LSVTEC that will rev to 7grand safe. You can get rod bolts, and head studs, etc. and rev it higher. You don't need new rods and pistons.

Please find me a C1 for $1200, heck.. even $1500.

Full jdm b18c1 swaps can be had from some junk yards out here for 2200-2400. I think by the time you finish building your lsvtec you are going to be pretty close to the same price.

You will definitely learn alot in the process and if you have never done it before its a good way to learn.... Just purchase the golden eagle ls-vtec kit and you are good to go... No machine work needed to make it all work.... Just make sure you have enough money for tranny, wiring harness, axles, mounts, radiator if you want to upgrade from your civics, waterpump, timing belt and other miscellaneous things that noone ever thinks about when doing a swap... It all adds up.
